Take the airport shuttle. :D

Anyway, try using a taxi or a bus; the buses are cheaper while the cabs are not limited to bus stops. Of course, the best option is to not travel at all and just stay home. :D

what country do you live in? here, trains are as cheap as it can reasonably be ( plus usually I have 50% discount, but right now, I have free tickets coz I'm searching for a job - isn't France cool, after all?  )

I think he was referring to interstate trains; local trains are usually pretty cheap (the fare for the metrorail system here in the DC area is only a dollar or two) but more long-distance trains (amtrak, etc.) can indeed cost nearly as much as the plane fares.

No... I don't mean to offend the French (and you), but learn to speak English damnit. I happen to speak French but the rest of my family besides my parents don't. It's VERY annoying that 99% of all French I encountered didn't speak a single word english... All my bro got as a response was "Que? Je ne parle pas Anglais....".

My parents and brother spent a few days in paris a couple of weeks ago; I should ask them if they had the same experience, since they don't know a word of a french. :D

:p Though its a nice country for sight-seeing :)

mmh? most french I know speak english.
I know more french people that speak english than the other way around :doubt:
btw, it's "quoi?", not "que" :P ( que might have been used around 1600, tho :p ) - and "quoi?" isn't really polite ( it's "what?" ).

well yeah, USA is large, but still I can't see how it can be as expensive as plane :doubt:. Unless you have some train like the TGV ( fast train in France that goes at 320 km/h ), it should still be cheaper...

no, actually, you don't. I can't understand why someone who doesn't live in a french-speaking country would learn french :doubt:

ANYWAY.  To get back on topic..  A bus or motocoach would indeed be the best bet it seems, as far as cost, but..the problem is finding out weather or not she'd be able to get to the airport, or even Birmingham, in a timely fashion..

So that people don't complain.

Which is missing the point entirely.

Yeah. People who don't give a damn about English in France will remain bad, no matter how many years they're forced to learn it. just like anything else.

I don't know; that is what I have heard anyway. Maybe the train is more luxurious or something; they must have some advantages or the train companies would be out of business by now. :D

It is similar here, but it can be any foreign language. They should drop these weird requirements and put in more math ones instead... :p

If the American government didn't give them huge subsidies the interstate passenger train system (except for the new england area) would have gone out of buisness long ago.

Because 90% of Europe speaks either French or English.  Or both. :p Probably true of most of the rest of the world too.

In my school, we had a choice of either French of Spanish to learn as a second language.  We all did French. I actually thought it was easier to learn than Spanish.

I agree.  I've taken the train tons of times to commute back and forth from college.  Have a look around - you're bound to find a local train (e.g. Septa) that connects to a main line somewhere.  At least on the East coast. :p

well, to be honest, i ahte French, as a language. i've had 3 years of it now, and i'm going to have to take another one before i can drop it in favour of German. also, in those 3 years, i didn't even learn enough to ask for a bloody bread without a pocked dictionary, and pointing what i want.

about the transportation thing, as i said earlier, see if she can get a ride from a neighbour or friend.

[color=66ff00]I think french is quite a lovely language. *shrugs*

As for the transport question, I doubt anyone who did not live witing the vicinity of where you reside could give you a good answer. Personally I'd call in a favour from a friend or someone you know with a car.
