There were to be no Goa'uld and the posession aliens (who built the gates) would be energy-beings like in the original movie and I think there'd still only be two gates.

I loved the film, it was all dark and evil. But I like the series just as much so any Stargate movie is good in my books.

Same here, I like them both, but I find hard to take the series as a sequel to the movie ( the goahuld or whatever you spell that, have nothing to do with Ra from the movie, which would be more like an Asgard if you ask me ). Ah well, whatever.

I can watch B5 over and over again and not get bored so I guess it's a matter of taste

As for series 5 the reason it was poorer than the earlier stuff is cause JMS was forced to wrap up his five year plotline after only 4 years since they didn't know theyd get a 5th series. JMS has said that he had intended to end seaon 4 with the episode where Sheridan gets tortured.
Add to that the fact that Claudia Christian wasn't in series 5 and you lose a lot (CC was the source of a lot of the humour in B5 and Tracy Scoggins didn't quite have her sense of comic timing).

That said some of the best episodes of B5 were in season 5. Examples include
A View from the Gallery, The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father and everything after And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder

no I think that was bretack (however the made up name is splled) after he had warned SG1 about an impending goa'ould atack

and I didn't say I didn't like the uhmor at all, but I think sometimes it goes too far, wile full circle was quite ass kicking, I think the whole death star thing was teken just a bit too far, so long as this level is not constant I'll be happy, but I wan't SG to remain primarily a dramatic action thing, not a comedy... thing

Well, the thing is that most of the episodes don't have so blatant humor, but there's always something to lighten up. And occasionally there's the "comedy" episode, like Window of Opportunity ("In the middle of my backswing!!") and 1969 ("I'll tell you the truth, Bob. My name is not Kirk. It's Skywalker. Luke Skywalker."). There's also the ending of Bane - I was laughing for fifteen minutes straight after the episode ended.

All in all it's a very well balanced series, and damn fun to watch - I've started to watch all episodes from the beginning two months ago or so, and the quality is remarkably consistent. Story continuity rules too, they often refer to discoveries and people from previous episodes and stuff like that.

What was funny was when O'Neil was suffering with radiation sickness (IIRC), and he stands up from his bed a falls right back done to the floor. I struggled to rewind the tape to watch it again, I was laughing so hard. Jackson and O'Neil's conversation in the lift in the season 6 finale was also most amusing

But the real comic genius of SG1 is Christopher Judge - Teal'c is without a doubt one of the funniest dead-pan men in TV. He's also a suprisingly good writer - I really quite liked that episode he wrote where Teal'c was dreaming he was a fireman. And he proved his acting ability in the one where O'Neil and Teal'c swapped bodies... Judge did an absolutely superb impersonation of RDA, right down to the smallest inflection and facial twitch. Nuff respect to a guy who's basically playing a hard version of Spock, designed to make RDA look funnier then he actually is.

I'm still bitter about the Replicators, though. That said, that one where SG1 found the android girl and brought here back to the mountain was cool - when that Replicator creapt out from behind the book shelf it made me sit right up

Love the series...hate it that since Sci-Fi took it over I haven't seen a new episode on TV.  They aren't selling to the Canadian audience up here...nevermind the fact that its filmed in Canada.

Apparently SPACE channel has something going for it to get the series however...we'll see what happens.  Crossing fingers.

Maybe the DVD's will get here first tho...who knows.

Yeah, we got through about half of Season 5, and since then we've had nothing. I'm definitely getting the DVDs.
