As soon as i get my web site rehosted im going to start showcasing mods with the use of movies. Currently i have done 4 examples of a showcase for Bobboau's GTF Odysseus and want to know which one looks best. Also i think you need a codec to view the movies because of the way i compresed them. Xp users put it in your Win32 Dir and non XP just Windows

Manually copying a DLL is so NOT the correct way to install a codec. A link to the official download source is.

no, that is the link to divx 5, not 3.12. on the other hand I could agree that copying a dll isn't the proper way to install it.

I haven't downloaded the movies yet (56K here) so I don't know what they look like. But if Icefire said is true it needs better detail. Much like this [shamelessly :thepimp:ing Blender ani]
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

...um, krackers: why?

I mean, it's much simpler, quicker, and more efficient to use screenshots or on-line model viewers, rather than going thru all the trouble of downloading huge video files.

even while that is true, backwardscompatibility doesn't mean it's as good at playing older video clips than the old codec was.

did windows 95 get better at running DOS applications?

How the [censor] can you compare OS's with video codecs? :p  New codecs can sometimes even improve the playback of older versions. At least the do not degenerate. (Not with divX anyway)

movies depict beter what the ship doees. If you want it in better res itl cost you 8 fps and 30 more megs. You dont have to think its a good idea, I do and thats enough. Now which one is best in your opinion?

Well it's fairly amusing if you don't take him too seriously. Hopefully he'll settle down in a few weeks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the new guys strying to contribute, but when you start ranting and raving, or start doing stuff that's already been done, just because you don't like the old one, and complaining when everybody else likes the old version just fine, it's kinda annoying.

Quite right, but perhaps the burnt hand will teach best - if he ever does make database of MOD movies, it will achieve precisely nowt.

At the moment, they are just clips of ships doing things.  Not alot of thought or effort so far has gone into actually turning that into something.  A movie can be a very effective tool and so far you've done well to get the techinical side of things down (capture and display of the movies) now you need to work on presentation.

Background nebulas, more attention to targets and compositions of the ships being shot at and doing the shooting.  Perhaps combine multiple MOD's (for instance similarly themed mods) into a single slightly longer video for presentation (complete with a small dialogue somewhere saying what it is).
