Okay, I swear I searched up and down for this already being posted here. Didn't find anything. So here goes...

WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN POSTED HERE ALREADY!?!

http://www.redvsblue.com/bloodgulch.shtml

They're huge, they're long, and there's about 15 of them, but this is some of the funniest FPS humor I've ever seen. Everyone else already knows about this, right?

Well, I knew about it. Haven't actually watched one yet. Are they that good? May have to check them out.

Personally I keep watching the HL2 "Traptown" video.

Well, if you're amused by M*A*S*H-meets-Dilbert style humor as applied to first-person-shooters, then you'll probably like it.

RvB: The Blood Gulch Chronicles is a work of "machinima" (gag), short films created with videogame characters as "actors". The entire series is set in Halo's Blood Gulch CTF map. One of the running gags is how utterly pointless it is for the red and blue armies to both have bases in this useless sealed-off box canyon. There are a few Halo-specific jokes (like how the Warthog's machine gun never runs out of ammo), but for the most part it's pretty non-specific.

The characters are hilarious, and the voice acting is better than a lot of so-called professional work I've heard.

The realisation of the pointlessness of having bases in Blood Gulch has ruined that map for me forever.

Episode 10 - That doesn't seem phyically possible - I nearly stopped breathing I was laughing so hard

Excellent recommendation ZB :)

As for the Halo specifics I've played enough FPS's that even though I konw virtually nothing about Halo I got all the jokes pretty much.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm curious and can withstand a fair degree of Internet-based psychological torture, on the other... this was recommended by a guy who likes Homestar Runner.

Maybe I'll just curl up under the chair in a fetal position and try to avoid thinking about what further horrors lie beyond the link.

Don't worry, Stryke. Some people are just too full of bitterness, hate, and self-loathing to enjoy Homestar Runner.

Is it just me, or is the trailer just a mostly blank video with sound?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

it seems like you need the latest codec.

Hahahahahah... silly Sandwich... must not use video formats much... :)

Taken straight from the FAQ on their website:
Q: Why did you stop offering DivX?
A: The short answer is because no one read the FAQ. The files were encoded with 5.0.3 and people either ignored the instructions to download the free DivX codec or just never read them. Our e-mail boxes and forums filled with the same question -- "Why does it play the audio but not the video?" After wasting a lot of time with support, we decided to short circuit the process and only offer Quicktime.

Q: So now the DivX vids are available again. What's your problem?
A: Turns out that we got just as many e-mails begging for the DivX videos to come back as we did for support. If you screwheads are going to e-mail us either way, we would rather reward the intelligent than punish the stupid. So the videos are back. If you can't run them, you can't read. If you can't read then the last sentence where I implied you were stupid won't offend you. You know, because you couldn't read it.

I get a bit of video at the very beginning, which cuts out after the first line of "subtitle" text fades out. Thus, I reached the conclusion that perhaps the blank video was a gig to be able to emphasize the dude's  lines.

I have DivX 5.02... I'll install the latest version in a bit... I guess 0.0.1 number changes aren't wat they used to be anymore. :-/
