That was pretty interesting, the lighitng was similair to a quake 3 lighting effect, its a good start bob. what i also found weird was that, u said the textures on meshes, as well as beams and weapons, were effected with this enhancement, does it also effect backgrounds and effects (weapons, beams etc.)? cause the backgrounds i have looked more vibrant dude!
so far one of ur best works since the glow maps.
my system suffered no crashes, ran fine for the hr i tested it, on DX8. 450mhz celeron 200+sdram, tnt2 32mg card.

by the way, i suggest for the viewing thing u were working on, make only like 4 points of zoom, from .45 to 1.30 because diff ships have diff perspectives, give the player the ability to control his fov...
