Critical windows problem
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp?frame=true

Anyone on any of the NT based systems (2000, XP, NT) check that link now. If you wonder why your firewall has been getting port 135 or 137 pings non-stop then this will explain it. :nervous:

Bastards!!! :mad2: :hopping:

Since yesterday, my PC's been shutting down  after "RPC shutting down unexpectedly" about a minute after going online. Does that sound like this thing? (I dunno **** about this kind of thing).

I f***ing hate people like this - sad little losers who spend too much time in front of a monitor, and not enough time in the fresh air and sunshine. Then they think "I know! Let's make people miserable - that'll make the world a better place!" Little bastards....
Any fool can pull a trigger...

So you're annoyed because someone is hitting you and you aren't strong enough to fight back?

Metaphorically speaking.

And I find it a little ironic that you berate people for spending too much time at their computer when your main reason for being pissed at them is because they stop you spending too much time on your computer.

Not at all. I just think it's sad that these people have nothing better to do with their lives than irritate people. It's rather depressing, really.

I am working at a product support team, and one person only received over 10 calls about this issue in less than one hour.

Sure, you can blame the people who exploited this security hole. But you can also blame yourself if you don't bother to keep your Windows up-to-date.

Nowadays a good firewall and virus scanner are also necessary to keep your puter relatively safe. It's your own fault if you fail to do something that simple.

There are always people who enjoy to cause harm to others, now the question is: What can you do about it?
No, forgetting security fixes and improvements, firewall and virus-scanner is not an answer.

Yes, that's the problem. Use WindowsUpdate to patch your OS up and then get rid of the malware using this program. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
If you have enough time to do so...

Hmm... Assuming a 56k connection and that they were not exagerating the speed in which they were being kicked off, they wouldn't be able to download the patch.

He could get the patch + program from a friend who's not infected.

They can remove the malware manually as well, but it's no use if they don't have a firewall to block port 135. Otherwise it will keep coming back.

Oh well... They could have just downloaded the patch before all this...

Have you failed to notice that you were replying to someone who has nothing better to do with his life than irritate people?
