In MSPaint goto File then New

You mean multiple textures for the different regions?

Use UVMapper - www.uvmapper.com  - it allows you to move faces and set material texture regions (note - you have to convert to obj and write your own mtl file)

What do you mean? More than one texture map for the model?

You just choose which bits of the model you want to map (use face selection). They'll then be shown over the grid in the map window. When you've done this export a texture map. Do the same thing with the next part of the model that you want to map and so on...

ohhhh its that...ehrm...(feeling little stupid)...i thought it was something involved with materials...i was desperately adding materials and assigning em to the selections without result

i'm quite sure you already knows that,
btw i found a little trick:
if you assign in truespace different materials (just different colors) to different part of the ship you can select em in lithunwrap making a selection out of a single material...this make really faster all the mapping process
