Stu's Rant of the Day: Art, Entertainment and Hollywood
Why does it look like the entire world has stopped filmmaking? Everyone except Hollywood? Because in the ENTIRE YEAR of 2003, NEVER have I seen a non-american movie in the theatres, bar a finnish movie titled "Man without a past" and a couple of estonian comedies. Have the french burnt all their cameras? Have then english nothing to show expect hundreds of reels of Iraq footage?

I mean, come on, this year there have been three movies, that I've actually bothered to see more than once. The Ring, The Two Towers and Matrix Reloaded. And the latter one just because of the kick-ass lobby scene.

Let's take a look at the local multiplex: We have Bad Boys II , a sequel to an old Michael Bay movie, that is probably more explosion ridden than the first one. Legally Blonde 2 , which I wouldn't see if I was being anally penetrated by five niggahs with twelve-inch dicks. Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, which is an animated film, and finally it's spelled Sindbad, you morons. But then, probably, americans couldn't pronounce that, could they. We continue with Wrong Turn - A horror flick, that I went to see just because of the gore (which there wasn't much) and for the pleasure of predicting the order our Token Stupid Teenagers(tm) die (with 90% accuracy, I might add). Then there's American Pie 3 (what's with the sequels these years). I grant you that, you americans make kick-ass comedies. Let's proceed, shall we? Tomb Raider II - Another sequel to a tired game franchise. The first one sucked anyway. And finally Bruce Almighty - the most tired, unfunny comedy starring Jim Carrey that I've seen. And probably, if you dig hard enough, you can find a prequel to it.

Why is there nothing deep, thoughtful and emotional movies. Like... Silence of The Lambs. Or Unbreakable. Or 17 Spring Moments.

And in the meantime, at the theaters, there are loads of masterpieces by Dostoyesvki (having just seen "Idiot, and waiting to get tickets for "Crime and Punishment", which unfortunately may take a while, since the tickets have been reserved four months ahead last I checked), Beckett's "Waiting for Godot'", even Shakespeare's "Hamlet" for pete's sake.

Why won't Return of the King come already?

I can buy that. What puzzles me, is how can the best Estonian theatre (which I consider world-class), can make ONLY deep philosophical plays, and be sold out for the last five years or so. Yet, there are only three of four interesting movies released in the past year.

Why is it our fault if your people don't want to show anyone elses movies or don't feel like making them themselves? :wtf:
