If the crime's punishment was to feel the sum total of the pain an act caused I'd think that there'd be far fewer people willing to carry out these actions.

Simple solutions to all of lifes problems:[/u] Dealth penalty. Stop state benefits to criminals. Force the unemployed to build houses and roads. Allow torture of criminals. Have victims decide the punishment.

I disagree sort of. Retribution is the perfect punishment. As long as it is only done once and doesn't cause a cycle of retribution like the blood feuds in Albania.

Hoewever, the death penalty is often inadequate because many criminals don't give a damn whether they live or die.

I think why people aren't so sympathetic for humans is that they can defend themselves to a certain degree. If their water tastes like bitter almonds or weirdly sweet, they'll stop drinking it and run to the doctor like a bat out of hell. The animal doesn't know what's going on.


Still, I think we should care a little more about humans than we currently do.

EDIT: When they're thinking about the crime, they're like "just a little community service if I get caught", so they do it. If they were thinking "they'll make me drink antifrease if I do this" I'll bet crimes will go down a little.

I'm going to sound like an old fogey here, but I don't believe that these little runts upbringing is any excuse. I play computer games, and I've seen Various horror movies such as Childs Play, and yet I STILL have not chosen to be violent. I have known people who's parents used to beat them who have chosen not to use violence on others.
While I'm not behind the Death Penalty at all (even the criminally insane are insane, which is an illness), I despise the way so many people hide behind a 'troubled' upbringing when finally caught doing what they KNEW was wrong.
So these kids ARE responsible for their actions, and while killing them is just one injustice for another, I do agree that they should be made to suffer for their crime, maybe clean the cages in a Dog's home for 6 months or the like, something that will always remind them that they were evil little bastards and they knew they were being so.
