RAR, better compression.

On the other hand, ZIP is more widely known and so it might be an idea to present a choice of both. I doubt it would take long.

I prefer the .rar format, but I still think that .zip would be the best to distribute in.

I voted Rar, but Winrar reads them all, and I have broadband, so it really is inconsequential to me.

Tell me a reason why RAR should be avoided.

Beside as it was written before, the actual format for distribution should be an SFX.

For the sake of newbies, I would go for ZIP. But with the size we're talking about, a self-extracting RAR would do even better.

but really, go exe, no problem for anyone.

It would have to be done just right though.  How about on the "full instalation system" the option for advance (where you can yes/no everything that is being done) and easy (where everything is done for you).  You could even put in the option for best preformance, and best looks.

you can get a freeware installer-maker program somewhere... i remember Hunter used it for a mod ages ago.

I'd say (in order of preference) self extracting exe, then RAR, then ZIP.
