Hmmm. Good film vs Final nail in the coffin of the Alien franchise seems like an apt tagline for the movie.

If it's good I'll be happy but after the travesty that was Alien 3 & 4 there is no way I'm going to pay money to see this unless I hear it's good. Fool me 3 times shame on me

It depends how they do it - Predator was all about action, Alien has moved through the suspense of hardly ever seeing the Alien in the first place to there being dozens on screen at once (depending on the movie).

I don't see how it is possible to **** up such a tremendously exciting premise, but the rumour mill has already been churning on this one and apparently it's going to be AWFUL.

Damn shame if it is but we'll see.

I liked Aliens better that Alien. I like the feeling of utter desperation that is in the film knowing that now there isn't just one of the bastards running around on a ship, there's hundreds of them and very few humans.

The Alien series should be done and dusted. The ending of Ressurection killed the premise. All the films were totally excellent until the whole human-birth thing. Half the terror was knowing they exploded peoples chests to reproduce.

And methinks the film will probably end up being largely from a trapped animal point of view. The Predator in an Aliens-esq situation. With loads of Humans trapped in some remote area with Aliens starting to amass in numbers and a Preadtor or two shows up to start taking some trophies. I mean, if the Aliens are tough, how tough must the people who slaughter them be? They'd be like a Predator magnet, the ultimate prize.

Then all hell'll break lose and everyone will be hunting everyone who's not them and it'll turn into one big Q3 bloodbath with Predator-Aliens hunting normal Aliens and other madness.

Actually they've come up with a far better premise than I thought they would.

I imagine that both the Predator and Alien sagas have taken on something of a Red Dwarf like cult following. No matter how good or bad the film will be, there'll be a market for it from the die-hard fans of either settings.

All it needs to do is show some huge slaughters and it'll be at least on par with the original Predator.

The trouble is, I love Aliens. But somehow with Ressurection they managed to make a rather poor movie. Don't get me wrong - it was "ok" but it wasn't on a par with any of the first 3... The first providing the sheer terror of this unknown killer. The second having the desperate fire fights and such, the third having a bunch of half-wits face off with virtually no weaponry and such against a fast and lethal dog-alien.

The fourth? Don't get me started. It just wasn't that good.

Don't get me wrong - I'm optimistic about the film. But they'll have to get it right. There *is* potential to screw it up.

Ressurection was a good film with some excellent cinematography, set design and effects, but it falls to pieces right where they're off towards the ship and Ripley stops and is dragged under the flooring. After that it's just tripe.

If they'd ended it with something like them getting to the ship and it being totally trashed and bathed in blood, Aliens swarming at them from all sides while they try to get the ship working, the android tearing a few to pieces as they tore away chunks of her arms, Ripley running back to fight them........

Then the film ending with the ship launching as Ripley is going knife-to-face with some beasties.

But the whole hybrid thing just killed the film. I suppose it was the natural evolution of the story, seen as since the first film The Company had been trying to get an Alien to engineer weapons from, but it seemed.......hollow, somehow.

They screwed up the hybrid.  I mean, it's potentially a good scary idea.  But yellow?

(incidentally, i don't think I've ever watched that film straight through..... but I've seen the first & last half hour a bunch of times)

If they absolutely had to go with the hybrid it shoulda been like a normal Alien but with boobs. As much human as Ripley was an Alien.

Maybe something like the main character offa MDK. Only more Geiger-ish.
