no it's not squarely directed at earth though.. no major aurora events from this one

had it been targeted directly at us they probably would have been able to see both the southern and nothern lights at the equator!!!!  

(and we would have had power grid failures, satellites destroyed, etc)

Shame really, I mean sure it would've caused damage but it'd be nice if humans were put in their place once in a while and realised they should stop killing eachother and worry about things like this instead :)

I'm fairly sure any country would worry about its defences if the sun started knocking out satellites and power ;)

the X28 was not directed tword earth - the AR10486 is about to go around to the far side of the sun - so it's on the sun's westering limb


AR10486 (or AR 486 for short) has been the most active AR (Active Region) ever recorded

Naaaa... we are at the end of the 11 year Cycle of the sun, hence all the activity. Believe me, an impending Nova would be producing FAR more spectacular effects ;)
