Quite true, although be careful what you disable - some stuff in there _need_ to run. :)

A friend of mine (a great PC expert by the way) sent me a list of all the apps and services that should be turned on and which should be tuned off. I can upload it somewhere. Belive me...it's awesome. Plus it saves a lot of RAM when you shut down some services. Belive it or not, Win XP can run with only 8 active services.
Oh and by the way...if you don't have any Anti Virus or Firewall software installed, you must do it immediatley.

Actually you can't uninstall messenger simply from Add/Remove programs. It will just remove all default shortcuts to Messenger, the program will remain.

And I can't believe, people are using an OS they don't even know well. Oh well, I guess it's not possible for everyone to have same curiosity in hardware and operating systems as I do.

I kept on getting messages with the heading "From Fat_Guy to Skinny_Guy" or something like that before I killed the service. However, my free ZoneAlarm firewall has been hit nearly 10k times since I installed it, which I feel is a bad thing....

Most of the hits are registered as using the ICMP protocol, with a few TCPs thrown in.
