Hey all, having read about the services.msc and how much could be turned off I decided to give it a go - the trouble is, it broke things.

Or in particular one thing - everything else still seems ok. But where once there was text in BF1942 there is now little boxes as you can see in the screenshot.

I have to go to work in a bit, but will come back to try and put things right later - but if anyone has any ideas of anything that could cause this to happen - please let me know.

I'm going to guess. Maybe you turned off the Nvidia helper service or something?

I honestly can't think of anything in the 2k/xp services that would affect a game. After all, those services don't exist (at least not in the same forms)  on 9x machines. You do, of course, know exactly which things you turned off, right?

Yeah, I posted this on the BF1942 forums as well than the simply suggestion "reinstall your graphics drivers" came back. It worked. I also don't see why changing the services would affect the graphics but what the heck - I'm glad that the reinstall worked.

Gonna close this now since I guess it's not needed
