Another Small Truespace-Question
Hello,

I hope someone can help me . I'm using TS3.2, and I wanna know
this :

Is there a possibily (or an free upgrade-utility) that allows to
set the UV-Map for single faces  of an more complex object ?

TS 3.2 only UV-Map the whole object, and I don't want to pay that
much money for TS 5 (almost 400 EURO ), which has  the needed
functionality.

Everytime I create an object, that is not build  from only a few
primitives, there will be at least one face where TS will mess up
(cubic)UV-Space, and these single face will become untexturable,
no matter what texture-tilling is used. See the pic here :

This Object is triangulated (before UV-Mapping) and not created by
using primitive Objects, but that is not important. This error occurs
very often, by many modelling ways.

The problem exist with other forms of UV-Space too, but I need
ecspecially the Cubic one. Maybe there is a better Software (for
free) for texturing ? I can't imagine that some of you guys made
such great models in this @!*(/<; - programm, escpecially texturing
in it.

So If anyone got a clue, please let me know.

Thanks for the help.

P.S. To avoid these problems I always delete the damaged faces
and glue a new one to the object (which can be given a seperate
UV-Map), copying the coordinates of every single vertice. This is
really annoying by the time.

Select the face, apply the UV projection you want. At least that's how it worked in TS3

Ehh .. TS3 can only UVMap a whole thing. Not faces one by one individually. I tried to do it already.
As for great textured models, according to my experience, many modellers use GMax, Blender, or 3Dmax for modelling.

Or they use LithUnWrap to manipulate the UV Mapping properties and positions. Don't ask how to use that thing from me. :(

TopAce hit the nail on the head, Lith will do the trick.  It's a fairly useful tool (3ds Max has something extremely similar) even for what you're doing, and an invaluable one for more complex mapping.

I don't know LithUnWrap well. Can I edit the UV mapping for a single face only, or do I have to modify the whole UVMaping for the whole model? I mean LithUnWrap.

You can do it for a single face, though I too am a little baffled at its implimentation.

TS6 has a nice Lith-like function. I use it often...

Shame about TS 3 being crap, and all.

Personally, I find TS3.2 really easy to make meshes in.  But pretty bad at texturing. (see my thread about my GTD Saturn as an example, it was completely made in TS3.2:cool: )

Lith, although very powerful, can be quite daunting (well, it was for me!), so I suggest if you intend to use it, you study the tutorial in Karajorma's Freespace Oracle (just look around, you'll find it).

Even then you may still get lost on the more complex shapes meshs.;)

I can't do anything useful in TS3 anymore. I used to do all my work in it (some of my best work, I think) but I can't use it at all anymore. I used to deride Lightwave for being too point-and-poly oriented, and loved Truespace's solid sculpting system. Now I can't stand the limitations imposed by Truespace and love the simplicity of Lightwave.

Raptor is right, TS in not too bad for making meshes at all, I spent
a lot of time working with it, and I'm getting the hint now. (It lacks
some possibility to melt or subtract complex objects).

But for texturing it is really a pain in the... you now where.

But there is still that software problem. I downloaded and
registered gmax once, but this light-version can't textures as
far as I know. Besides that it saves no common file-types,and
I don't know if there is a converter outthere.

And 3DS max and Blender are not for legal download, or am I wrong?
The full versions are in price well beyond TS 5.

Same for lithunwrap. The new Trail-version cannot save, and the
old one isn't for download anymore, or is there somewhere a
hidden link. I guess this would be the best chance to solve
may problem. So any info on the whereabouts of this file available ?

Blender is free, so it's hardly illegal to download! :D

Maybe I should try it. Is it better for texturing(=UV Map manipulation)?
