Manic street preachers
I was talking with my friend yesterday about different music and all and then he recommended to me to find this group, Manic street preachers. He said that they are pretty good, bu I wanna hear some other opinions. What do you think of them? What is their music about?

Politics. If you're not reading a politics degree you'll miss most of their points. The music is standard Welsh rocky stuff. Highpoints include 'A Design For Life' and 'If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next'.

They like Castro....they did a gig in Cuba a while back.  More socialist than communist, though.

But, aye - very political group.  Been around for a while.  Try internet for samples (even the short ones on amazon)

Mmmmph. Not a fan, myself. They weren't bad ten years ago, now they're just another "dad-rock" band. Get their first album, but don't bother with the others.

If ya want some political music, get some Rage Against The Machine and some S.T.U.N. :)

Heh- ah, Rage. Consistent little bastards, you gotta love a band that insists on keeping its underground pretensions even when they start selling in the millions.

Oy, and I remember when political music was more than a band *****ing ineffectually about something more significant and relevant than their whore girlfriend for a change. I feel so goddamn old.

Bands like that still exist, it's just they've been pushed so far underground that it's hard for them to make a name for themselves, especially with the homogenization of most musical food groups.

I saw the irony that you do in RATM too. Rage Against the Machine, just ignore the fact that we're signed to Sony Records.

Well, I suppose, yeah, but bands of any flavor still exist, somewhere out there. Doesn't mean they're anywhere where I'll ever get to hear 'em or even hear about them, so they might as well be gone as far as I'm concerned.

Good point.

I've gotten so pissed off with having to actively seek out music that isn't ****e and means something that I've just not bothered and I just wait to see what pushes through to the mainstream.

Also, if anyone would like to help me assasin....decapit....incapacitate any or all members of Good Charlotte they will be rewarded greatly by myself and my friends.

I would be delighted to assist you.  May I suggest using an electirfied bear trap first, followed by a light sprinkling of hydrocloric acid to the skin??

i never heard of the band, what is wrong with it?

Good Charlote is a band  of some morons who raised from the streets to a "rock" band. Their Videoes are horrible. They have fossils in a music video which is about Boys and Girls. :wtf:

Oh and about the assasination idea. How about electrocution or a package bomb filled with poisoned little spikes that spread out in explosion. Hey, it's an area effect.

They're (apparently) supposed to be a punk rock band but they fail on so many levels it's sad rather than funny. The lyrics are drivel (girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money. Girls will laugh at boys when they're not funny) and apparently at least one of them thinks that they are undeniably punk rock because (and I quote from an interview) "I have punk rox tatooed on my stomach, how can that not be punk"

****ing idiotic halfwit numb ****s that piss the mother ****ing crap outta me.

Here I was, thinking this was going to be a thread complaining about crazy cults on the streets of New York City....

No kidding, Grey Wolf...

To be semi-on-topic, my favourite band (Jars of Clay) is coming to Sydney and giving a concert in mid-January. I am so there. :)
- Eddie Kent Woo, Setekh, Steak (of Steaks), AWACS. Seriously, just pick one.
HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS, now V3.0. Bringing Modders Together since January 2001.
THE HARD LIGHT ARRAY. Always makes you say wow.

No. I was being serious. Those street preachers are rather manic. And they go after you on the corners of Times Square, trying to give you pamphlets.

EDIT: Disclaimer: As a note, I'm not really awake right now. Didn't get enough sleep last night.

Ahh, that song brings back memories. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard that song - mind you, it helped that I was stationed at a quiet checkpoint and heard the songs played on the radio repeatedly from day to day. :p

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
