http://www.gamasutraexchange.com

A place to sell artwork to keep some of us poor artists going.

Thought it might help a few guys out here. Hopefully you will still share your work here for free.

Gamasutra is the bomb. Anyone interested in content creation for games (IE Modding) or in the game industry in general should sign up for a membership.

You would be surprised. I've seen some stuff for sale on TurboSquid that makes my eyes bleed its so bad--and they've been bought! Its nuts. None of us are going to make a fortune off this, but we might make some spare change.

are they selling all rights (as in one time sale and you have to make a new model cause that one isn't yours anymore), or just for people who want to use it for something

Looks like Gamasutra bought Turbosquid or something. :wtf:

Bob, I believe you can sell licenses to use the models or sell the models outright (I know of people who have done both).

Hmmm. Maybe we should put some of our ships up there :D I'm not a great modeller but I've seen thing up for sale for $30-$40 which even I could make in about 20 minutes.

its just for people who want to use it, they are allowed to use it comercially as part of another program but not for reselling it individualy.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Yeah. I've seen Ghoulish Art's stuff before. Try finding the flash movies of his ships he's done to really impress :)

His website is even more impressive

Actually, it's not a problem of model quality - we have people around here who can pull stuff as good as that on the modeling front. It's the textures. The texturing job on those models is awesome and, unfortunately, I don't think we have anyone around here who's that good with textures (even if some people come pretty damn close).

It's just the amount of work...... I don't see anything there that can't be done with enough free time - nothing that's technically difficult or above what's being done here already, or has been done.  I mean, it's more the lack of ideas than the difficulty of drawing that holds me back at present.

Especially when you bear in mind that he's using specular and bump maps to enhance the effect...

I'm not seeing it isn't quality work or anything - it obviously is - just that it's not as inachievable as people might think.  Give me 2 weeks of free time, I'm sure I could come close to that - I could efinately beat the low poly models http://ghoul.flipcode.com/3dm/3dm.html if I tried hard enough.  God knows I've been stagnating with my own models' quality for more than long enough.

And even if i'm proved wrong.... can it hurt to try?

I'm reasonably sure that Venom and Aldo could own Ghoulish easily on model quality and textures if they were wanting to do that. No doubt.

Hell, I want to prove it! i just don;t have any time :(

In all seriousness, my motto has always been that it's better to aim high and fall midway than to aim low and hit the mark.  Anything i do will be for Reci, though - so noone will see it anyways :)
