Win XP Pro SP1

This is probably the monster ;)

Go to C;\Games\Freespace2\
or wherever you installed the game.

Now right click on FS2.exe and select Properties -> compatability mode.

Select Windows 98.

Hopefully, this'll fix the problem, not sure about AB's in FS Open though....

By the way, there was someone here who is now called Nico who used to use your name, don't be surprised if peeps get confused ;)

LOL Just a thought, but one other thing that might be causing it is software running in the background, things like virus-scan etc can eat your CPU time :(

Offline Venom

but i think my nothin can eat my P4 @ nearly 3,2 GHZ so fast :thepimp:

I think you're also supposed to hit the "turn off advanced text services" button, also in the compat tab.

When you are setting compatability mode, there should be a little check box that says "turn off advanced text services."  Checking this should fix the problem.  And I'll ask, what version of Freespace are you running?  You need to patch up to 1.2 if you haven't already.
who needs a signature? ;)

Polycount - standard Fs maxes at around 850 per submodel, with a max of 5000 for all models (I believe).  I think there is a vertex limit of around 3500, not sure.

The newer HT&L version of the SCP has much higher limits - i think in the 5000+ range, though you'd have to check elsewhere to get a better answer.  It is still being bugfixed, though.

As for modelling software - the only convertors we have use the Truespace *.cob or *.scn format, and thus require the hierarchy to be set up in Ts (by gluing lights).  You can make models in max and then import them into TS to set up the convertible model though- that's what I've being doing.

There is a free version of TS3.2 floating around now - I think that supports all the feature you need to convert a model to Freespace.
