DG: Ok, I might have not explained it well enough then. Just watch the EE of TTT, and watch the PJ commentary. They give a good explenation why they did it. But I understand what you mean. I personally still dont think their little adventure to Osgiliath was REALLY necessary, but I think it was just more of a way to tie the 3rd with with the 2nd. But oh well.

I got the extended Towers for Crimbo, and certainly Faramir's character seems more in tune with the original (i.e the book) given the expanded motives. Different means to more or less the same end.

I shall watch the bonus stuf at some point. He might even explain what the **** he thought he was doing with the cliff...

I had a listen to that bit of the commentary and they explain their reasons there. They aren't that impressive though

I think sending over the cliff edge is probably to the only complaint people make about the 2nd film that really has some validity to it. The others can be explained away quite easily.

I think any changes were going to make some people unhappy. You can't convert a book exactley as it is to screen in the same way you can't convert a film exactly  as it is to a game.

I didn't read the book, but I understand the final battle at Helms Deep didn't actually happen.
Imagine how crap the film would have been to the general audience if they had watched all this build up only for the big finale not to take place.

The whole cliff thing was simple. The (one of ?) hero/leader, apparantly lost, returns to lead the battle against the bad guys.

Anyway, the reason they did the cliff scene was to tie Arwen into the second movie somehow IIRC from the commentaries. Just to remind people that she is still around, and that them two are still an item. Though I do agree that doing this by having Aragorn take a dive was a bit of a weak point. They could have done it better. But I guess they also did it to add to the tension for the people who heavent read the books. I dunno. I personally think the scene was a bit useless. Though the Warg scene was good.

The warg scene was very cool. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the fellowship get attacked by wargs in the first film so it made up for it

You know, I actually know someone who didn't like the movies coz it was just an adaptation of the books and didn't take much artistic license, and asking what, then, was the point of doing the movies. What about that?

Whoah. I got another example.
One of my buddies didn't like ROTK cause it wasn't realistic. Nor that Gandalf didn't use any magic missiles or spells and what not. Or that he didn't have some major showdown with the Witchking. And the battlescenes to him werent as intense as Helms deep. Though he loved Matrix reloaded and Revolutions, in which the final battle he thinks is far better and more sattisfying than ROTK... Hmpf, go figure...

But to each his own I suppose. I mean, I hate Moulin Rouge, though supposedly the entire world loves it, right?
