I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. I never had a problem with White Wolf Games (well, except maybe Changeling

) and their anime fantasy game Exalted is quite probably the most original and intricate campaign settings I've ever seen in an RPG.
I guess it depends on what kind of Storyteller/GM you have who is running your game. If he takes the game, the campaign and his players seriously, then White Wolf games are highly enjoyable. If your GM is an ass, however, everything goes to hell in a handbasket right quick. I've been in both types of games.
And Mik, I'm a fan of the Bastet also.

In fact, when my friend decided to run a Mage campaign, I was having problems understanding the Paradox rules in Mage and was not really interested in playing a mage character. But I remembered that some Bastet (particularly Bubasti) do sometimes associate with mages, so I asked my friend if I could play a Bubasti in his mage campaign. He reluctantly agreed, expecting the campaign to take a downturn because I had such an incongruous character.
It turned out to be one of the best decisions he ever made for that campaign. The roleplaying interplay between my Bubasti character and the rogue Void Engineer character alone justified my friend's decision to let me in. Remind me to tell you about the hotel bed-wetting AKA territory-marking incident sometime.
