Ignore the info about the G5 desktops, the comparison isn't really worthwhile. Also, the "OS" bit is reversed, this lists the apple comps as having WinXP and dells having OSX 10.3. The information about laptops is pretty good though.

So, how exactly are they hard to administrate? I tried out Darwin (Mac OS core) and I didn't have any problem setting it up, although I dropped it in favor of Linux.

Not on a personal level, but on an institutional one.  Windows is designed with a lot of network-integrated stuff built in, especially 2000 and XP.  Macs just don't have the same level of compatability with multi-user networks that PC's or even pure linux boxes have.

Have never touched a Mac so I can't comment, except to say that from a budget point of view(the way I approach most everything), the amount of Windows-based laptop you can get for $2700 is breathtaking these days.  Go Alienware!  Not to mention that for the same amount as the G5 you can get a really well equiped Athlon64 desktop.

$2700

Perhaps I'd better repeat that figure.

$2700

That is disgusting. My whole setup, which has basically the newest of everything, cost a little more than half of that. Why the **** would you spend that much money on something that doesn't perform as well as a decent but unexceptional desktop?

That, besides the decision to remain totally non-compatable with 95% of the rest of the world, is the primary gripe I've got with Apple.

No one can argue that they are pretty, Steve has got the best designers in the world working for him.

No one can argue that they are superior to PCs in certain arenas.  But an extra second or two to do something in the real world is negligible.

But, and Mac Fanatics can flame me all they want, that is all your paying for.  The fancy case and the Apple name.  I just don't see it.  I've got better things to do with my money.

$2700?  I can buy a good used car around here for that much.

the concept of a laptop has always confused me, or more the craze over them, I see people who by laptops and only use them when sitting at a desk,
it's all just small, substandard, less reliable, less customisable, less fixable, and less upgradeable, and yet vastly more expencive, you can get twice the computer for the same price with just the restriction that you can't use it when the power goes out.

and as for macs,
hmmm, no.

go with alienware, it's what I've got,
it is vast, I'm thinking I should have gotten the older model case though.

That's what I'd get if I had the money to drop on a notebook.
