Looking for a new graphics card
Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a new graphics card to replace my old Nvidia one. Thing is, I dont know squat about graphics card, since the only ones I've had till now have been the SiS ones that come pre-build with the AMD Durons and Athlons.

Any idea what brands are good and which ones I should avoid? Their is a cost issue as well, since I'm trying to keep things under 75-80$ :)

75-$80

Wouldn't bother. Save up for a while and do youself a favour.
You'll want either a ATI 9600 or Nvid 5600 FX to get the latest winter/spring releases to run as they should.

Check out the other threads here for more info.
Hope that helps.:)

Ti4200's are good too. They're about the same as a 5600, possibly a bit faster, cheaper, but they lack DX9.

Most DX-9 capable Radeons (9500+) are very nice, and should be in the price range.

I'm looking into these too. Would it be wiser to get a 256Mb Radeon 9600 Pro, than a Radeon 9800?

Edit: 9600 Xt... Hmm... :drevil:

Here's a listing from the company I got my Mobo from, I'll probably buy from them again.

AGP

It's not the same company but,  for those who are stuck with an OEM Compaq, Dell, Gateway  or HP with no AGP slot...

PCI BAABEE!

*edit*
Look at the next to the last one on this page:

I didn't know they made those.

I wouldn't by an  FX5600 again, in retrospect.

IIRC, 256MB memory only really has a major impact on performance with very high resolutions or very large textures.

Also, i think the XT cards (from Nvdidia and ATI) are just the same cards, but with more cooling so they can be overclocked further.
