Ok, so, I got an old PIII 800 Mhz, with 256 MB of PC100 RAM, on what I think is a SOYO mobo. Now, I got a brand new Nvidia card, possibly FX5900 or 5600 (not sure cause it came out of storage, without a box. it has a gold-colored backplate, with a TV In/Out port, and two video ports. The heatsink is a highly reflective chrome color). When I put in the card, I get a total system freeze. I turn the machine on, get a blinking red light for a few seconds, which turns into a solid green one, but I don't get any picture.

Please help!

If you got XP press F8 before it starts and go on VGA mode

Um...stab in the dark here, but does the fan on the card have to be plugged in?  Did the computer work beforehand?

No, I get NO VIDEO output.

The card is a replacement part for an old, blown-out card. Yes the computer works, and yes the card works (tested with a seperate card and machine, respectively).

You may not have enough voltage into the AGP port to support the card and because its not getting enough power the card is shutting down and the system is likely giving you a video failure error message.  There is also a fairly big difference (not in terms of AGP voltage) between the FX5600 and the 5900...if you got a 5900 you likely would know based on the price

Well, it was an error. See, my dad owns a PC shop, and he sent a part away for warranty. Then the company sent him the wrong card (the one I have), and then the replacement part, letting him keep the other card.
So I can't tell the price

and I get NO MESSAGE. The screen is COMPLETELY blank. Zip, nada, nothing.

I think Icey may be right..I have a feeling AGP 1x voltages may be different from 2/4x, but I'm not sure...... depends on the Mobo type, obviously - i'm not sure when the various AGP speeds were introduced.

Have you been able to try an older gfx card?

Yea, I tried an ATi Rage II Pro, which works, along with an ATi Radeon 9000 (which was the old, blown-out card), and both worked.
I also had a couple Nvidia's in there at several points in time, which all worked.

And again, the new card still works.

Also, the card I tried had 3 notches in it's connector slot, same as the new card.

The 5600/5900 is an AGP Rev.3.0 card. Lower voltage, but higher wattage. Won't work with AGP Rev.1.0 or Rev.2.0, IIRC.
