I don't think Disney have had a decent 'drawn' cartoon success (i.e. box office) since the Lion King, whereas the Pixar stuff has cleaned up.  That's yer reason for it right there.

If you had ever read the Arabian Nights (even a gimpy translation), you'd realise that the Disney Aladdin is remarkably unlike the old arabian story. In fact, the only simarities are someone wicked wanting a lamp and duping some patsy into fetching it. From there, it goes elsewhere entirely.

But hey, why would anyone actually READ when they can watch pretty moving pictures?
