... Hmm -- we all know volition is doing SOMETHING - Nobody quite knows what they're doing, but we all know they're doing something.  They have told us they're doing something and cannot say what.  They are looking for cinematic artists, vehicle artists, etc.  

Add this onto what interplay just did - 2000 unit limited release of freespace 2 -- kinda dipping their toe in the lake to test the temperature or maybe just to get attention.


I get the sneaking suspicious that they're working on... *get's in his HLP war mech for protection* .... FS3....

Not that I mind, not that I mind at all ... I really hope they do make FS3. But that saga has gone on for so long now that I refuse to get my hopes up at anything less than an official announcement.

I reckon they're working on a new FPS. Red Faction 3 (possibly) or something new.

It was quite a while ago...a few months maybe(?).  I think they're doing a bit of work pepparing PS3 projects too, so i dunno....

The re-issue of FS2 CD's is probably just Interplay testing to see if it really was just their ****ty advertising that killed the sales.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if the re-issues go whizzing off the Interplay warehouse shelves, they'll start looking into whoring the FS brand out to new games and products.

Well, it'de be better than nothing. Damn, I remember when Interplay was actually a "For Gamers By Gamers" company.

However, given then fact that Interplay has dumped 2 EXTREMELY promising PC titles, namely Baldur's Gate 3 and Fallout 3, I get the feeling that they're getting out of the PC market completely which found unfortunately make FS3 unlikely...

Probably just selling their overstock. It doesn't take much brains to know that selling a five-year-old game for $50 and continuing to not advertise it isn't the best way to find out if your initial advertising is the problem.

Yeah but running off 2000 CD's costs them, what? Maybe $100? And by making them fairly low-key and pricey, if they sell-out then they'd know that the FS-Underground™ was insanely fanatical enough to warrant thinking about a 3rd installment.

get it out of your system.  purge yourself.  realize that FS3 is not going to happen.  fine, you can say "You have no spirit, you're not a true Freespace fan"... right, but i've been playing Freespace longer than most of you, and as much as i love the came, i have come to the reality (as should you) long ago that Volition never intended to and never will publish a Freespace 3.  it's illogical.

'Who has the rights?' its not something that can be answered accurately. Although if a Freespace 3 were to be made, Volition would have the first offer of developing the game but seeing as they are now only a console developer I do not know how this would work.

Of course we probably all think that the inactivity of Volition's website and the hiring of more staff is suspicious. Lets not get ahead of ourselves because there WILL NOT BE a Freespace 3 and under some circumstances atm it is not something I would welcome.

I'd buy a Revell-Volition GTD Orion in a nanosecond. Heck, I'd buy every single model (especially if.... they..... detailed them..... OMG!!) and get myself back into scale models again.
