XP Problems/Questions.
I've recently installed XP Professional on my new computer, and i've never used XP before... so i have a few questions, and was hoping i could post them in this topic over the course of the next few days/weeks and you experts could answer them for me :)

First, sometime yesterday when i was browsing through the computer, i came across a page that showed all the users that are currently logged on on the computer (their sessions are still open), and from that window you could log them out, etc.  how do i get to that, as it would come really handy about now

I have XP pro also... I've never seen that screen. Care to post a screenie?

Oh. wait. You don't know how to get there either.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

perfect Hotsnoj.  thanks.

one more thing.  occasionally when i "switch users" and leave it at the 'login' screen (so i'm not logged out, my applications keep running) everything stops on my login, for example, AIM sings off, all downloads cancel, and everything just stops working.  other times it doesn't.  any ideas why this happens?

Only thing I can think of is that you're accidentally logging off completely instead of just switching users. That, or (if it's just stuff like AIM that's being affected) you're logging in as someone else but using the same AIM account (Causing AIM to log your first connection out).

When that happens you usually get two AIM programs running simultaneously IIRC.  I haven't used any other user on this PC in quite some time, but I think everyone gets their own instance of programs (which can be quite memory-comsumptive, I might add).  Sounds like you are indeed signing out instead of just switching users.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

That isn't really what I meant. Most IM programs are multi-user aware these days (with the possible exception of ICQ but anyone using the stock ICQ client for longer than what it takes to upload your contact list to their servers needs their head read) and two instances under two different local accounts shouldn't be a problem, provided you log in with seperate IM accounts. If you try to use the same (IM) account with two instances (and this doesn't have to be on the same local PC) of the program the first will generally be automatically logged out. If it's only AIM playing up then it's possible (although unlikely) that this is what's causing the problem.

OK another one:  when i go START --> Programs... how do i stop it from only showing a few things in the list, and the little arrow at the bottom (which, when i click, opens the ENTIRE programs list)...

Try right clicking the task bar, then adjusting the options on the Start Menu tab.

Also uncheck Use Personalised Menus or it will hide away programs it decides you don't use enough.

While I'm here I've got one of my own.

In Explorer I like to see all my folders displayed with details rather than in any other mode.  I've opened up the folder options and set those settings to apply to all folders.

The only problem is that when I create a new folder windows has a habit of setting it in whatever view it feels like. It isn't even consistant about it. It changes its mind whenever it feels like. Any idea why all new folders aren't being set up in the default folder view?

For classic mode just don't click on advanced :)

Or you could change to XP mode for long enough to follow Snoj's advice :D

Aw, it's np man, I just help where I can.

Also you may want to make a quick bar. Makes program opening allot easier when you have windows already open. :p
