How about the Stryke fan forum?

I'm sure the server load won't be so extreme as to cause instability or anything. Quite. But there is a need, and a heretofore unfilled niche.

Don't forget the soap. Tallow + Lye =soap. Where you get the tallow from is entirely up to you...

That'de be awesome, seriously. Though you'de get shut down and/or nabbed by the cops in not time. And besides, there are so many Anarchists Cookbook sites out there already.

__

And my idea involves no mention of warez. Or, atleast I never meant to give off that impression. Its a tech-help place for games. The site can not be held accountable for where the users aquire them. Lots of people need help for legitimate games and demos where there is not a large community there to help out. For example, I was not able to get the Far Cry demo working, despite the fact that I posted on the official boards several times. So I went without.

And besides, websites that only inform and assist with legally dubious software are not illegal. Take, for example, NForce or the plethora of other ISO webistes out there. Or various CD image and virtual drive software. Because of the dual purpose, that is to say that the service can and is used for legit purposes, they're in the clear.

But whatever.

an0n: perhaps a non-story based game might be called for. I don't really like writing ****, I do, however, like to go make my ships (or dinosaurs, or little guys with sword), go beat up other people's little ships, and then laugh about it. NW just has too much overhead for an instant-gratification type person like me.
Arrr. I'm a pirate.

Yeah but if I was to setup some kind of "Go maul everyone game" it'd need an engine, and considering I God bored of the Campaign Database after like 2 days, the likelyhood of me making a complete engine are next-to-none.

No, I don't know about that. But BB admining was not what I meant. I mean web mastering - the job of delaing with everything that comes with managing a web site. Such as, for example, what other people do when they have a website "on the side", a kind of hobby, and they can't get enough motivation to complete scripting something for it. ;)

Current trends in design - simplicity, power, or something else?

Methods of building a site - outline, then basic framework, then fleshing out, or all the needed functions first, then plugging them in to pages, then putting it all together into a site...

Process of testing a site - against code validators, in multiple browsers, with multiple people at multiple skill levels, etc...

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Why not make it a forum for writing battles, if nothing else?

2 Writers simply choose a battlefield, 2 pawns (ships, crews, heroes, armies, whatever) and maybe a universe as well and duke it out the fine and proper way (similar to RPG style, but with only the 2 of them)

No ending would be determined - the victor is decided by sheer creativity and quality of posts, and is decided amongst the 2 in secret later in the game, as opposed to the beggining (or it may just end up having no winner or looser after all) :)

One idea for a game is something in a fantasy setting with the players as gods and religions as the empires. Your power is based on the amount of worshippers you have and the strength of their faith (or fear :p ) "Characters" that you use in the story debate are also immortals whether humans given those powers or demigods. (offspring of your deity and a human) The world it would be set in would sort of be like classical Greece and Rome. You have one big multicultural city where the religions try to one-up eachother while there's also wars and other conflicts between regions held by followers.

Anyway, the idea is that the rules should allow for some pretty dispicable as well as good deities. There is a basic limit on how advanced the tech gets as well as some basic limits on how much a god can do in a period of time as well as their actions must be within their sphere of influence, but overall it's open for players to do what they want.

*expands Singh's idea*

Hows about:
The members form into small groups, teams if you will, comprising of all manner of artists. You get a few story-writers, some modellers, a renderer or two, a military historian and a PS-Veteran. Then you chose your universe (TRek, B5, Honorverse etc) and/or time-frame and are banished to an associated forum.

From there you engage in warfare against the other teams in that era/universe. You have to compile intel (written and PS'd images) to alter the abilities of your opponent (say by PS'ing one of their characters into an image of someone having a leg amputated) and to justify to me why an attack is warranted.

Once I've okay'd an attack and given them some time to respond with counter-intel, the battle begins. Story-posts give descriptions of the battles while any major damage to the opponent has to be presented in the form of a render/PS-drawing. All this could be drawn-out into a months-long war between teams both in and out of character.

It'd help people improve whatever skill they've chosen to pursue, motivate them to do **** and create enough inter-team bickering that it'd keep people at each others throats and active on the forums.

It'd also mean I could whore myself out as a mercinary in exchange for warez and pron. Or even become T3h U8er JoodG and take flat-out bribes in exchange for 'incapacitating' the account of a valuable opposing team-member.

Interesting, if not a lot of work. And if spread over a few months, it might go the way of, well, NW.

I like the idea of that religions thing, although I'd expand it a bit: basically, it'd become something akin to Nodewars but set on Earth and in the past. Say, Egyptian or Greek periods. You could create your own cultures, and because of the lack of electronics etc. (and thus no instant uber-weapons with no concrete description of how they actually work) powergaming would be crippled. It would require people to actually be inventive with what they have, rather than just randomly flinging out new stuff at a rate of knots.

It'd also appeal to a much wider audience, seeing as it wouldn't be at all game-specific or influenced.

Unless everyone controlled a specific God from the Greek Pantheon which would be pretty l33t. an0n being Zeus or sommat. People could have society/nations devoted to specific gods and bassically have NW but better and with what Oddyssey said. If there were to be super-weapons of sorts, it'd only be through divine intervention.

They'd have to be Xena-esq Gods though. Not the all-powerful, 300ft tall, Jason and the Argonaughts kinda Gods.

Someone and Me could take opposing sides of the All-Powerful Good and the All-Consuming Evil, then manipulate the Super-Mod'd Gods into doing stuff to suit our own nefarious ends. Normal Users would post stories about the general activities of their religion/army and could be gifted positions as / control of various demi-Gods, Generals, High-Priests and Mythological Creatures.

I'd be prepared to take the role of Good, if it came to it.

Although, the way you describe it, it might require a lot more people than we potentially have. It shouldn't be hard to get more people interested though, as this is a from-scratch affair.

And the rules would be real simple: If it's in a real Greek or Roman legend, you can do it.

Possibly. The risk attached to that is making it far too research-based, however. Either that or it might become limiting.
