Funny... I think that while the Eve ones look nice, they are not as good as these for FS. Eve's look almost too awe-like. You know? Like its just too grand of a scene to be shooting stuff. It creates a disconnected feeling. In Freespace, I always liked the style of ships. They are not necessarily sleek in design. Some of them are a little rough looking, and it adds a gritty-yet-hi-tech feeling to the art of the FS world.

Eve is just too pretty to be brought into FS. Eve's nebulas should stay with Eve.. .it just matches. BIG mistakes are made when things get too pretty. Look at the BattleZone series. THe first one featured gritty, rough looking tank designs... the second one, all though still good, prettied everything up with bright orange colors and super sleek aero-dynamic designs. The feeling was a bit lost.

So I say keep it gritty. None of that pretty boy crap needed around here

So yeah, great job LS!

since I never played eve, how are those nebs exactly? I don't talk of the mmm visual aspect, which I can see from the sshots, but if they are, for example 360°, like if you are in the eye of a cyclon, for example the nebula that was posted in the other thread was surrounding you, with the bottom being dark and the top breighter?.
Because I'm trying to do something similar, but I'm perplex about what the result should look like

Some are like that, but most are not, of course.
Buit yeah, I remember some area where it's exactly how you say, like you're exactly in the middle of the eye of a ( gigantic ) cyclon, in fact you're on the top edge, so it cuts space into about 2 equal hemispheres. The thing is that save from the edges of the nebula that are softly lighten by a star, the nebula tself is pure black, you feel like you're flying over a gigantic hole, the effect is really neat. I loved that place, to bad it was lost in the middle of nowhere, nothing to do there, so no point hanging around

Or, it takes a hour to get from point A to point B, and then the item you traveled all that way for isn't there anymore.

Or you accidentlly open fire on a station while trying to dock and are ever after shot at on site in any "civilized" systems. Argh!! :D

lol, it's about impossible that such a thing happens in eve ( well at least, it was during the beta ), coz you can always cruise away

Hey Lightspeed, any plans to make DDS versions of the nebulas? I know you are not a big DDS fan, but right now I'm an a slow computer (damn work) and I converted and tested with DDS and got an extra 20 FPS. This comp has a geforce4MX w/ 64mb.
