Come to think of it, actually, hunting licenses are required in most of the US for gun ownership, too. The "pretty simple weapons" bit is iffy, though- the federal government pretty literally goes all Big Brother on you if you get a Class 3 firearm (machine gun, minigun, etc.), but you can still technically get 'em.

IIRC anything that can fire full auto or bursts is illegal, not sure really. the bottom line is simple, nearly no one has any fire arm, and nobody has anything that compares to military hardware.

Actually, it's pretty easy to get an airgun license in the UK, and those can be ramped up to be almost as powerful as a gunpowder side-arm, but much more quiet....

allegedly.....

:nervous:

airguns are illegal here too, IIRC.

and anything that looks too much like a real gun would require a license as well.

Ghost: I think that'd have more to do with people here being ****ed up. Hell, down south the gun laws are supposed to be much more stringent, but it's there you see the cartels with their own damn armies better equipped than the legitimate ones and stuff.

Well... if America had a land connection to Europe, you would have been invaded 50 years ago. (not saying you would have lost, just saying you would have been invaded... like Russia) Europe has lot of small countries (and it is a continent might I add) so invasions were a common thing to have.

So, we're even!! :p :D

So... when is the phaser coming out? :nervous:

I dabbled with air gunsa bit a few years ago, back when I could afford it. A hunting rifle needs no licence up to 12 foot-pounds of power, after which you need a full firearms licence. Overpressurising an air rifle is possible (spread some lube oil over the cylinder hole thingumy and the oil ignites when the air is discharged, massively upping the pressure but knackering the rifle after a very short time - NOT recomended).

Currently in this country even air pistols are being viewed with intense suspicion after the spate of incidents in which an air pistol convertd to a 'real' gun was used. See my own air pistols use compressed gas cans and the like, but a Brocock revolver is basically an actual revolver mechanism which fires pellets instead of bullets, with compressed air instead of gun powder. Bit of a jiggy with the barrel and you can load the real deal in it. Tis a popular method among the 'gangstas' these days  Course most people don't appreciate that only this one kind of gun can be converted, and want to ban even relatively harmless pieces of kit like mine (boo)

Here endeth DG's spewing of random facts

Yup, that's the danger, and a lot of people also don't realise the danger inherent in converting a gun back to it's original role, especially if it's been used as an airgun for a while. Some models have had the barrel flanged slightly, or have been re-rifled, and those ones are about as likely to kill the shooter as much as the shootee if converted back. This is not necessarily a bad practice ;)

I'd rather have the 0.5 cal Desert Eagle. Which, as a matter of fact, I might actually get one of these days. If I get a pistol it's gonna be a Desert Eagle of some kind - unless they're completely uncomfortable in my hand.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

...Why? Those things are so silly-looking... if you want a huge gun, yeah, that's understandable, but make sure it actually does something. An oversized pistol just defeats the purpose, and I hear they're bloody inaccurate too...

My dad had one of these, until he learned that just the reciever alone would get you 10 years in jail...

He showed it to my grandfather, who, in proper fashion, sh*t a brick, and then sold it for $1000.  It's worth 25, but he didn't want to get caught.
