FS2 GameCube? :P (Via GC-Linux)
only one way to find out.

but if i remember the exact clause correctly, we're ****ed either way, because it contained a paremeter about "distributing the 3 discs in the exact form". meaning no rips, and no Knoppix jokes. this is all speculation however, and i want either a lawyer or someone from interpay who isn't a helldesk geek to answer the question.

But any change in law can't be retroactive, Inquisitor.  So if you've distributed the game to all your friends before they "change their minds" there is no legal recourse against you or your friends.

correct, but after they changed it, you'd be forced to destroy any copies.

and Kazan, i remember pretty clearly that they used the 3 unchanged disks part, making a DVD would mean changing the format from 3 to 1 disk, and could be argued as in violation of the EULA.

if Interplay would do so is another matter entirely, but that doesn't mean that webhosts, schools and Gamespy would risk it.

why don't we just make the disk and worry about the legality of distributeing it later, if we have the disk I can take it places and show off the game to people.

fine with me, i am playing devils advocate here, because someone is going to ask these questions, and i'd like to have the answers ready by the time they do.

As i mentioned in an other thread "(FS-genarl/ftp blah):
Well from the link to the store i get that it is a
(emphasis) One-Time-only-special-now-only-"20th-aniversary"-2000-copies-only-edition
i hardly call that a re-release...(/emphasis)

And since it is still available i guess the mainstream audience isn't really getting warm for it. (still in stock) I think (but now we should hop over to "FS-legal") that this whole issue should be settled once and for all. rights from vol.inc. to interplay to these and yonder...*sigh* may or may-we-not suply the game-data files with the program which is so honorfull made by the freespace community.

Now i hope on an opinion from you. I think there is even an open source oppertunity here. Let interplay/vol.inc do what they are good at: releasing games: make NEW game data, a story, video and audio. Then they release a new game with the FS engine. They benefit from a still strong game engine and we benefit from what they inject in FS. (as in the Mac-Safari vs. Konqueror case where Apple made many updates/optimizations and injected those back into the KDE-Konqueror engine)

As it is now it is way to vague about "who" "what" "when" "why" or "why-not"

Whether it's distributed or not I still want to get this thing working.  How and if it gets passed around is something to work out but isn't something that I'm going to worry about for now.

As far as a 3 disc rule the game was available on DVD at one point.  If the license of the DVD version is different then I know people who have that version.

problem solved, in that case.

as i said, i was only playing a devils advocate, to prevent any issues later.
