"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Actually, that's how I met my wife too, Flipside, and like you, it wasn't an online dating thing. It was ISCABBS, as a matter of fact. Some of the users here might recognize it.

If you ever meet me in person though, it becomes immediately obvious why I had to meet my wife online. I might be stunningly handsome, but I've got, as many here will atest, a volatile personality.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

LOL Yep, seen it in action myself, at least your volatile moods are usually backed up by a good bit of research :)
It took me a long time to find someone who could tolerate my darker moments to be honest, still, it was worth the wait :D

Despite the utter desperation inherent in online dating, there seems to be a ton of these websites, and they're all doing great. And they all make it out like you're going to meet nothing but supermodels on there. Loniless will end up revatalizing the IT industry to pre-dot.bomb levels.

You do? You don't come across that way to me. Perhaps I'm just used to brusqueness from living here. ;)

Under no circumstance should you give someone you meet online a lot of personal information. You could place yourself in the dangerous position of having a date who knows what a loser you are.

Remember, online dating is not for everyone—only the desperate and pathetic.

Don't worry. If you actually meet someone decent over the Internet, the two of you can tell people you met at a party.

[color=66ff00]You know if there wasn't such a stigma behind it I'd say that online dating is a pretty clever idea, think about it, you choose the person you want to date not by their features but by their interests and their features. At least you know you're not hooking up with some teenybopper. *shrugs*

I'd call it more sensible than desperate but that's just my way of looking at it.
