[color=66ff00]Yeah barre chords are a bit of a pain initally. :)

Very useful though as it opens up a whole new range of alternative chords i.e. you can shift the F chord up a few frets and get A.
Well, you should get the idea.

Nice example Phreak but not my bag. I'm more of a PRS fan.

LOL One of the guys in the band had a flying V, but ended up getting rid of it when he discovered it's absolutely impossible to play unless you are standing up ;)

[color=66ff00]I considered building one but it's pretty wasteful on wood and it's got a glued in neck which I don't think I have the necessary skills to execute properly at the moment. A bolt on neck is a lot more forgiving, if the pocket the neck sits into is a little too large you can still rely on the screws to hold the neck on properly and if the neck to body angle is not perfect you can adjust the neck slightly using shims which are very thin pieces of wood.

[color=66ff00]Yeah Phreak, you're paying for name basically. Geting a good housing for one is hard though.

Best fuzz pedal I ever had was one I built into a broken Wah housing, you could really stomp on it when you wanted the fuzz to kick in. Found the schematic in a book called electronics projects for musicians and played with the circuit until i got something I liked. Was quite a fun wee thing to build but it's hard to sufficiently shield them. You should have heard some of my inital amp tests, sounded like someone was torturing a bag of cats.

My friend liked it so much I gave it to him. Must build another when I get some time.

BTW phreak, I have a decent archive of good retro effects that I've amassed over time, if you want copies just ask.

i figured building a good housing would be the trickiest part.  im gonna start my homemade effects business by building a footswitch using some cable, sheet metal, a switch and spraypaint (which should be hella easy)

[color=66ff00]Remember that any enclosure would ideally be made out of a conductive material (plastic and conductive paint isn't so great IMHO).

Also the stompbox switches are actually quite readily avalable IIRC  from the likes of Maplin or RS components and both have online stores.

I have one word for you: patience. So many guitarists (young and old) rush into playing pieces immediately at full speed, or close to it. This will lead to disasters and innumerable inconsistencies in your playing technique. Practise slowly at first, getting the movements right and making sure your body is relaxed rather than tense (precise movements such as your fingers will do in guitar are impossible to perform at high speed when there is excessive tension), then build speed once you have the movements down. Movements first, speed later. Be prepared to put some real time into your instrument and you will well and truly shine when you play. :)

Tell me where did you get that poster?
My teachers have that same one and I can't seem to find it

Thanks :) The poster, hmm... I got it from a local Christian bookstore called Koorong. I think the shop's just Australian, I'd suggest looking around the book shops and seeing if they have one or can order one in.

[color=66ff00]Only have one completely scratch built guitar at the moment, working on the second (had to scrap a neck today and restart because of stupidity with a power plane). :(

Anyhow, the first one I ever built:

I'd call it a Strat with a good looking headstock, pickguard, and fretboard.  its a wonderful accomplishment.  now try putting a floyd on it

Oh, I meant, give the Strat a name. I'm still trying to think up a good name for my Samick. ;)

So it does have a name! ;) Way cool.

My brother and I are writing an accompaniment for that guitar part you saw me playing, so once we've got that recorded I'll show you a duet. :)

i picked up my dads gitar like 3 weeks ago; and found some of his books and went online for some pointers. I just have a problem with fretting chords right because the strings are really packed togetehr with a small action and i have reletivly big fingers... ergh

 I'm speechless...

Btw, Drew, maybe you should pick up a classical guitar and try learning on that first. Much easier for you big-fingered folk, the frets are spaced out far more. :)
