Your fault for buying a flatscreen.

CRTs 0wn any flatscreens.

Problem with a flatscreen is, it has one native resolution (1280x1024 on modern ones) which looks good on it, it interpolates any other resolutions. If its divided by 2 (640x512 for example) it would look good again. But Freespace, i'm afraid uses either 640x480 or 1024x768 - both no good for a 1280x1024 flatscreen.

are flatscreens still lousy in terms of clarity?  The ones they buy here at work are blurry as hell.

Make sure you're set at the optimal resolution.  We had a bunch of them set the wrong way at work this past summer, made them look aweful; blurry, grainy, just not fun to look at.  Adjusted the resolution and they cleared right up.  My gripe with them is that their refresh rate is too low.

I have a flatscreen :(
Haven't tried FS2 yet, I'm afraid it will look all ****ed up. Time to resurrect the old screen then.

Note: this is L17T. It's ****tier than hell. Never, ever buy a Hyundai L17T. Never.

Edit: Just checked out SCP env build with it. Well, whoa.
First of all, I have to manually set the resolution at Windows, not a big deal. Then I look at the main screen and almost start to cry, "what have you done to my FS?!?"
Then I turn on the game and wet my pants. It just looks so much smoother and better with it, I can't tell why. Texts in Win are ****ed up in 1072x768 whatever, but look NICE NICE NICE in the game (missions). Maybe that was just because I hadn't tried the Env Build throughly yet.

What is wrong with flatscreens? :(

They save space and the graphics appear nicer. Even FS2 rules in them. ;7

The saving space argument I've never taken very seriously.  I've got plenty of room around my screen as it stands, and it's full of so much junk I can't find my mouse half the time.  Flatscreens just mean a bigger surface area to collect junk, and more that I have to look through to find stuff I need.  CRT all the way ;)

TFT:

* one good-looking resolution - 999 crappy looking resolutions
* incredibly slow refresh
* view angle limited
* Welcome Mr. Moiré

CRT:

* All resolutions look fine
* fast(er) refresh rates
* full view angle
* takes up slightly more space
* soft image, no moiré on good monitors

guess... what wins? :)

TFT is good if you ONLY use business applications. But as soon as you want to run different resolutions (i.e. play games) you're screwed.

Still waiting for the day that LCD's (or something similar) finally can replace my good ole CRT.  At the moment LCD's are fantastic for office applications (the good quality ones anyways) but with games and multiple resolutions....you need something that can do that sort of thing and we just don't have it yet...

We needed a flatscreen for the space up here, but if i was in charge i wouldnt have payed the 200 for the pos. Unless ur desperate for space or you have like $700 to buy a top-of-the line flatscreen dont bother wasting your money

:no::nod:

Unfortunately so. That's one of the major reasons why I decided not to buy a laptop, because of the limitations of a TFT.

indeed, TFT's don't like photoshop much either.

i really don't see the issues with TFT panels. I use my laptop in school, and at home, basicly all the time when i'm not asleep, eating or driving from school to home. A TFT has a much more soft image compared to a CRT.  It saves me quite a few headaches. I also do PSP work on it, it does so rather well, the only reason i don't use it for big stuff is because i only have one trackball, and that is hooked up to my desktop. as for games, my dad won't let me put any on it, because he is afraid i'll play them in class. (imagine FS with a glidepad?)

TFT/LCD will never replace CRT displays. Maybe OLED will, but that's gonna be another couple of years (fortunately).

Seems like it depends what you want to do with it then - in an office environment where I only switch between Windows applications, a flat screen is ideal because it takes up less space and the res/response times don't matter.

If only CRT monitors were less deep / heavy. They suck for lanning :doubt:
