And E2150 qualifies as one of the worst games I've ever bought (and taken back, god bless EB).

I think that is on par or a bit better than Rome Total War. I admit that I don't exactly know what 3D will bring to the Total War series, but it looks awesome and that is enough for me.
Long time ago, you see, there was this thing called the VBB and... oh, nevermind.

I'm yet to see a game where you can create trenchs like in E2150.

And where point defense missiles exist...

Anyone ever play Metal Fatigue? That was a pretty cool game. Too bad it was so damn buggy, and had no mod support :(

It was pretty cool, but the unbalance between the units and the mechs was too drastic IMO - there was no point in having any sort of battle vehicles because the mechs were so much better. :)

Leme post some GC2 screenies - they'll knock your socks off. :D

EDIT: Bah, didn't want to flood the thread with a ton of images. See here, image VERY HEAVY: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,22925.0.html

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

ACTUAL SCREENSHOT!

Dammit!  Now you've made me want to play with lego!

Ha Ha Ha! Nice. I still play with lego's however, and I made the Aquitane and some transports and did some weird things with the lego camera... crapy camera, good software. Meh, it's all in good fun. :p

However, if a game of simple proportions where you could do just about everything, would require huge amounts of attention. And I mean, HUGE! The ability to do anything, which you basically can in war, might take up a couple of gigs worth of gameplay material. However, it sure would kick ass. Earth 2150 came pretty far, with tunnels, trenches, air, sea, land, everything! Anti Missile Defense, shields, everything! Customizable units was a big plus. I think that it creates things very well. Especially since you can destroy some of the environment too, like blow down trees or blow up rocks to make room for buildings. Very nice touch.

...

That wasn't of Lego when I first posted it. It was of a quick RA mockup I'd done in Paint...

Must've overwritten the file. Erk.

We all saw what it was. No need to go back and redo it. Looks cool though!

@ Lightspeed:
Starcraft is overrated, it's one of the best rts's, but that is not because it is 2d, it's because it plays nice and all that, just like RA1....

I never really LIKED SC, but i admit that it is a good game.

3D is not bad, the way it is implemented is usually crap.

2D strategy games offer a lot less strategic options than 3d ones (terrain elevation etc) so for strategic options I vote 3D.
problem is that no CPU can make such tactical decisions yet.

In some cases they can. The Earth 2150 had me cornered on numerous occasions when I got stuck in their trenches.
