I have seen this once or twice. What is HT&L.

Basically, it speeds up your FS2. Now why would we want that? Well, with all the graphical modifications (to make it look better, duh), our CPU performance becomes a cost. Now with HTL, we don't have to worry so much about CPU speed (although, your FPS still goes under quite a bit if you don't test and optimize your settings).

So...HTL speeds up your engine x4. But, it also makes us use LOTS of polys...which means, instead of the "limits to polys on-screen" like we had before, we now have "minimum of polys on-screen."

I'm not even sure my explanation is adequate (having next to no knowledge on these types of things). But uhh, I hope I helped by putting it in laymans' terms. :D

HTL was one of popular attribute in fs2_open, I just expect people to know.

It increases the maximum-reasonable-ship-polycount by about 9000 polygons, depending on your hardware.

Specifically, HT&L is the process of transferring the job of the initial rendering of 3D images to the GPU instead of making the CPU do it.

The old way(Software Transform and Lighting) the CPU rendered the whole image and then transfered the completed image to the GPU for transmission to the screen.  HT&L moves the rendering process onto the GPU, leaving the CPU free for other processing tasks.

mmm no, HTL sends verts in local space off to the card, the card lights them and transforms them into screen space, then rasterises them, rasteriseation is the proces of takeing x points in screen space (were the are on the screen) and makeing rendered on the screen triangles out of them, rasterisation is what all "3d accelerated" cards sence the 90s have been doing, HT&L simply moves the whole rendering proces further into the card.

Well I ave heard of FSO the SCP FS2_open, infact for the TAP project and Earth's Defence mod I have been using the two latest releases. both want to crash at randomtimes in different missions. Like in the third mission of the FS2 Main campaign it crashes after the Psam'tek arrives, and at odd time during some of my own missions. even when i reduce the detail. anyway, I havn't  been able to get one of the more resent documents concerning what has been put into the project (SCP).
