Hear hear! 0083 is possibly my favorite Gundam saga, right up there with 08th MS Team and Char's Counter-Attack! Gundam Wing...it will always have a fond place in my heart, as it was my first Gundam, and really, Anime series I loved and watched. SEED is far superior, at least the first half/three-quarters, but really, the fansubs are better than the butchered garbage on CN.
EDIT: Post was slightly rushed. I'm a huge, huge fan of Gundam. It's my favorite anime and mecha universe, ever. I much prefer the Universal Century to the Alternate Universes, in most cases. 0083 is my favorite series. Not only for the incredible designs (The GP series, especially GP01 and GP02A are my favorite Gundams. Physalis was completed on my birthday. ^^; September 18th, 0083. Dom Tropen, Xamel, Gerbera Tetra.) but the story is really something else. It does an incredible job of connecting 0079 with Zeta. The characters are very believable. Kou Uraki, the naive rookie Federation pilot, and Anavel Gato, the Zeon ace, whose morals are blinded by his ideals and followship of Delaz. Love, corruption, betrayal, it's all there. 08th MS Team is also among my favorites, for those same reasons.
As far as Wing and SEED are concerned... Wing isn't horrible, but it's far from good. It seemed a lot more like a fan-girl pleaser than anything else. However, it was my first Gundam series, and before seeing anything of the UC timeline, I thought it was incredible. SEED is great as well, especially the first half. Some people consider it to be too slowed in its pace, but I thought it was excellently done. Towards the end however, it becomes so frantic and so confusing. There are far too many "major" characters, and as a result, some seem to just kind of fade out of the spotlight. I could go on for quite a while about this. You'll just have to see it for yourself. I did watch the first episode last night. The dubbing is surprisingly decent, but I'll always like the Japanese VAs more, just because I'm so used to them. I was also appaled that they butchered the ending theme and credits. That theme is among the best I've ever heard, and I was saddened to see it cut so short. Ah well... Hopefully the DVDs will make up for it.
