Tasteless tie in of the week?
there is a diference between a historical event (WW2) and a current ongoing conflict were people are still dieing, I'm even a little unnered by the Vietnam games becase there are still a lot of people alive who lived through the real thing.
think about how many people consider themselves profesional anti-terrorist comandos becase they've played too much counter-strike

The wounds of WW2, and even (mostly) Vietnam have healed - or at least are certainly less raw.  History has made its judgement on these conflicts.

In the case of Iraq, it is still a deep, festering wound  - no-one knows how the 'war' will turn out.  People are still dying out there, families are still in the midst of their mourning - on both sides.  Turning this sort of heated issue into a game is not so much irresponsible, as propaganda.  It's preventing people making an honest, fair judgement by trying to put them in a clear, good vs bad situation as the programmers dictate.

And unlike WW2, or vietnam, etc judgements still need to be made and learned from.

I read an article that presumable quoted a study of some kind, which found that 1/3 of American tennagers have an abnormally high opinion of the Army, only due to playing America's Army. Now thats good propaganda.

That pretty mich sums up why I think this is a pretty tasteless game.

Maybe gamers should unite and boycott Kuma War? Afterall, it'd show that not everyone supports war-profiteering. Or maybe that's just being idealistic, and when you're idealistic you're sleepin' with the terrorists!

dude, the only opinions i got from the Army through playing AA were these:
1) IRL, you always walk through a door 5 times and get thrown back each time.
2) when a M249 fires, everything slows down
3) grenades go through walls
4) snipers are hacking, per definition
5) no one follows orders, everyone goes rambo.

Of course, you could always just boycott Kuma War cos it's a steaming pile of faeces.

And am I the only person slightly disturbed by the concept of Americas Army?  I mean, can you get other nations armjy ghames and link up to fight the americans?  Like Britains Army, where you have to steal your opponents boots (cos your own have melted), learn complex hand signals (cos they haven't finished the 5-years delayed radio system), and share 1 clip of bullets between you and your teammates?

Canada's Army?

I shudder to think.

welll, AA is hardly realistic. in all the time i played it, i was in one(1) FF incident actually accidental and involving more then 2 persons. and i learned that there are no armys that fight with wore then 16 people a side, and off course, i learned that there are never, ever civilians anywhere on a battlefield.

What we need is for someone to create a fake cover to 'Suicide Bomber', make it as tasteless and realistic as possible, and I'll send it to them with a suggestion that this ties in wonderfully with their sense of ethics :)

Because people who use that sort of term (well, and race / religion based epiphet) generally don't have a clue who or what the **** they're talking about..........
