  • huh?.. Who?.. hey you kids, git off me lawn!
long story short, i spilled some chicken noodles onto my keyboard (Logitech elite pro) and it's wrought havok with the keyboard, i'm both using a combination of the keyboard and the on-screen keyboard..

yes, i did clean it out, but it's a little too late for that..

so far the casulties are the keypad's enter and numlock key, BOTH shift keys :( , and the numbers 7,8,9,0. seem a little touch and go. same with
the o key
i get the feeling that i might have to replace this thing.. so, any suggestions on alternative keyboards? (either that, or replace this one with the same type of keyboard, which seems to be a worthy model in the very least)

i may have to postpone foxfire until i can rectify this, however.

:hopping: :hopping: :hopping:  there's 250 bucks down the drain.:sigh:

EDIT. it's gone way down in price, i might as well buy a new one.. the same.. it's a good keyboard all round..:blah:

250? I thought you were talking about the panel of plastic buttons you use to type ****

well, if you are going for a replace, you might just try throwing a bucket full of water after the noodles, and then drain it and let dry for a week or some.

alternatively, use a knife/scissor to whip up the offending keys, and clean out under that as well.

250 bucks? Wow, it must be solid gold.

I had this happen to me...twice. First, I get a keyboard that say "spillproof", cause there's always half-full (or half-empty....) coke cans around the computer. Two weeks, the keyboard breaks down. Go and buy another one. Two weeks, it breaks down. Then, finally went and got a Microsoft one for like 50 bucks, which is way too much for a keyboard, but its been working for a while now.

I refuse to buy keyboards with all the moronic multimedia/app/power/volume/yadda yadda buttons on it.

Sadly, it's become almost impossible to find a decent-quality keyboard without all that garbage. You have to go with either the $10 junk or an industrial-grade model.

I got one of those Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pros. Got it for free because the E key is a bit flaky
eeeeeee
See that strink of Es? I pressed the key 3 times rapidly and that came out. Minor annoyance.
But anyway, the extra keys can be programmed to do whatever you want them to do. I have the multimedia ones tied into Winamp. Works great when I'm playing Starcraft or Eve. Particularly Eve... I hate its music....

Utter madness. My keyboard cost me US$12. I've used it for 3 years now, and the only problem I have with it is that I fail to push the A button down straight, and it sometimes resists. No big deal. who uses that button anyway?

Preach it.

A long time back--like 95 or 96--I bought a pair of $10 cheapass keyboards with the whole ergo/split design thing. Fast forward to 04: one of them just goes wonky. The mesh finally just gave up. That's cool, right? $10 over the better part of a decade? Thats good return on investment, I think. I'll go buy another one.

No dice. I guess they lost big by selling so cheap, since the company is completely gone. Microsoft still makes 'em. With all the extra fiddly keys that I can't stand, and they ****ed around with the pgup/pgdn key cluster, and the arrow keys. :wtf: No one else I could find at the time sold them without the extraneous keys.

Finally, my wife found a Belkin (another company to hate for their contempt of the consumer) keyboard for like $50. It has no extra fiddly keys except for the wierd ATX power buttons in the upper right. Unfortunately, when using the number pad in the dark, I would sometimes hit the standby or power key by accident. I couldn't turn off the feature in the BIOS or in windows, so I had to settle for popping off the keycaps.

Sorry. Frustration.

I curiously enough, am using a microsoft £19.99 keyboard and a slightly more expensive Microsoft mouse. I will say that for Microsoft, can't write an OS to save their lives, but their subsidiaries make a mean peripheral :D

Bah.

I'm just gonna buy 5 happy-hacker keyboards and move from one to the next as they explode.

I figure I should be set for life with 5 of 'em.

my school sells off its old equipitment every now and again, and its pretty good stuff, usually a max of 5 years old. Can get a pretty decent keyboard for like £3. they also sell 15" monitors for like £20-30. Tis good stuff to sell on to make a bit of cash, but id never use the stuff myself, its got school cooties.
