That's not Sands of Time, it's the next one, apparently. It also seems to be kickass.

I must--respectfully--declare you a dimwit, sir.

Prince of Persia was an excellent game. The sequel was more of the same. PoP3d was an abyssmal failure. Prince of Persia Sands of Time was the greatest 3d platformer EVER. It not only lived up to the potential of the original, it surpassed it in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY. Given that the major factor in its success was the way SoT was developed (The designers got to, you know, design the game, instead of the suits, imagine that), I cannot imagine that UbiSoft would do anything to screw up a winning formula.

Without a doubt, this will be an excellent and utterly stunning game.

Indeed, Sands of Time ruled so much that it's hard to describe. Also, the Prince was badass. You should fear him.

Pfft. He doesn't need no time dagger to be a world-class badass. I have to admit, though, he's even more of a badass because of it.

See, thats what I don't like. In the original, he was never a muscle-bound, tattooed badass. Well, hard to really tell from like 20 pixels, but all the acrobatics and such were within reason.

In Sands of Time, the developers sent the Prince off to Matrix Boot Camp, and now he can fight like 10 guys at once, run on walls and such. I only played about the first hour or so of Sands of Time, due to my crappy video card (I just wanted to get a feel for it, I want to save th full experience for High Detail and smooth frame rates), but the impression that I got, and its backed up by all the reviews, is that the Prince is this super-strong asskicker now. The original was a puzzle game mostly, and combat was less pronounced than it is now (though there was still plenty of it).

I still think that Sands of Time is an awesome game, and a great way to bring Prince of Persia into the new age, but I just hope they don't keep tacking on features, cause that would likely ruin the experience somewhat. I guess I'm just a purist.

edit: I just found the soundtrack up for download somewhere, and I'm listening to it right now. Awesome music.

And you aparently have to read what I wrote better! The first 2 Prince of Persia's were good games... These final... let's call them... "reincarnations" have been wierd to say the least. Like Rictor says, the first two were more of a maze game than what these reincarnations have. That is part (and in my opinion, a great part) of the magic that were the original Prince of Persia's. The reincarnation's look more like a melee version of Tomb Raider!

I just hope they don't ruin the name Prince of Persia 2 :doubt:

says you. Its one of my fondest childhood memories, right up there with Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Sokoban.

For its time, its was amazing. The animations were way ahead of anything out there, and the controls scheme was perfection itself. Add to that a great combat system and an original premise (the one hour time limit) and what you get is the stuff of legends.

I find it interesting that you mention Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider was essentially Prince of Persia. Lara's got all the same basic moves as the Prince did in the first two games. Unfortunately, Tomb Raider lacked the raw fun factor and design sensibility of the first two PoP games. What Prince of Persia: Sands of Time does for the series is somewhat similar to what Metroid Prime did for the Metroid series. In both cases, the new game managed to take the series from 2d to 3d gracefully WITHOUT GIVING UP ANYTHING that made the old 2d versions what they were. They are truly 3d action platformers, just like the originals were 2d action platformers. While there is more combat in SoT than there ever was in PoP-2d, this is just to let players do something OTHER than solve puzzles and mazes. Have no doubt, SoT gives you more, harder and more fun puzzles and exploration than its predecessors. The designers went out of their way to be faithful to the series, and still go beyond "more of the same". This is clear to anyone who has sat down and played the game--and indeed, you can do a first hand comparison for yourself, since PoP is right there on the disk. :D

In the same genre, I prefered Another World. If I had to make stupid jumps where one pixel would make or break your day, at least, there was sort of a story to back it up. You know, I remember very clearly the first time I played Prince of Persia, and when I showed it to people. It always started with a polite interest. The enhousiasm did always show, then, but always at the same time: when you purposely miss a jump and fall on the spikes, with al the gore involved :p ( that's ALWAYS been the moment when people start to love the game :p ).
Gotta admit, you'd have started with the metalic jaws, people would have screamed genius I guess :D

You mean Out of This World? That game kicked ass too. Did anyone here play the sequel, Heart of the Alien, and was it any good?
