Now, it's sci-fi, has nice special effects, starships, huge-ass explosions, supposedly epic scale story, and plenty of action. Those sound like the ingredients for a kickass movie, but I hear a lot of people doubting that it'll actually be any good.

What's your opinion?

Pitch Black wasn't that good of a movie, and Vin Deisel isn't that good of an actor. it'll prolly be blah.

From the trailer, it looks to be Scorpion King to the letter. Tough guy, huge army, shapely princess...bleh. Though Pitch Black was a good movie, it was a rather small and unknown flick, certainly not the SFX blockbuster that is the Chronicles of Riddick. This is what happens when a movie becomes successful and the sequel has about 10x as much money and 10x as little creativity.

Firstly: Starship Troopers was a good film. It did what it set out to do and did so with special-effects that have still not been bested after, what? Five years?

Secondly: Battlefield Earth sucked from the outset. The book sucked. The story sucked. The actors sucked. The FX sucked. And it was written, produced, directed and largely acted out by Scientologists.

Thirdly: Chronicles looks like a cross between Dune, LOTR and Matrix: Revolutions.

I just hope they don't **** Riddick up. As it is, he's just a sociopath who kicks major ****in' ass. If they try to make him into some kind of hero or saviour they'll destroy the character.

T3h Phunn13s would be if it ends with him fighting that evil guy as their ship plummets towards a planet, they both bug out, leaving the ship and the rest of the crew to die in the crash. Then they hit the deck in some old abandonned camp just as the third sun is setting. They guy looks around paniced as the place gets darker and darker, the soft glow of emergency power lighting his face as he calls out for Riddick to come face him. Riddick appears in a doorway with his trusty knife in hand and just stares past him. Then, as darkness envelops them Riddick slips back into the shadows, the evil guy screaming "You think a little dark can scare me?!?" to which Riddick replies in a whisper "It should...." followed by a terrifyingly familiar screech.....

And I think Chronicles is almost guaranteed to suck. He's going to save the world from an ancient and unimaginable evil, get the girl, and proceed to go about his life of criminal infamy doing Very Bad Things so they can keep him in the role of a crazy con.

The potential in the character is enormous, why te creators chose such a clicheds plotline (from what I know) is beyond me. Even the XBox game, Escape From Butcher Bay looks to be m,ore interesting, at least its an original and/or cool premise.

The funny thing is, before I saw Battlefield Earth, I was thinking "this is gonna be the best movie ever!!". But then...you know....

He was the founder of Scientology. And he used scientology to hock all his crappy-ass stories to his brainwashed masses.

Chronicles of Riddick looks more like an action movie than the damn good SF/horror type film Pitch Black was. I'm hoping it'll be good, but I expect it'll suck.

Sky Captain is just Crimson Skies the movie. IMO

and battlefield earth just sucked..  i agree with an0n with this one, the book was bad, but the movie... ergh, it didn't even stay true to the book for ****'s sake.
