The Apache, likely the most well known helicopter. And for good reason.

yeah those things are loaded arsenals.  and they're badass too!  i've always thought helicopters launching weapons looked cooler than moving aircraft, like jets.

remember in "Behind Enemy Lines" near the end, right when the good guy's running toward the edge of a cliff, and there's dozens of (Koreans?) after him, chasing him, and right when he gets to the edge, like three helicopters laden with weapons (not sure if they were apaches or not) hover up and just start launching rockets and open their machine guns on the enemies  :P it was badass ;) :)

That was the most unrealistic war movie I have ever seen. Heat tracking satelites with the ability to parse ground heat from human heat that easily... missiles that can miss an airplane and turn all the way around to hit... I could go on and on... all those discrepencies just made me hate that movie.

  • Aim for the Top!
it was highly unrealistic but still fun to watch :)

I love the looks of the Hokum, it's so ugly but so right.

I also love the Mi-24 Hind, because any helicopter sim I've ever played that has had one of these in, it has scared the **** outta me.

whereas the hokum was a pure attack helo, the hind was multipurpose, it was a gunship and transport, a role that, well, it was perfectly suited to.. it was designed like that from the get-go... other gunship/transports were usually like the modified hueys or, more recentlly, a blackhawk or somesuch with a few missle-pods attached.

The Hind rocks, it's one of the symbols of Russia and, before, USSR. It's been featured in movies, animes, series, videogames, books :D
It often even played the role of end level bosses in some videogames :D
Gotta admit that weird twin-bubble cockpit and those huge wings make it quite recognizable, actually :)

Yup, the russians made some tech that outlasted the soviet bloc.
