And they're 100% CG. No photos used. They were all made with particles in 3DS Max.

Those look pretty nice, but a bit blurry compared to LS's pretty crisp stuff.

It is a bit blurry and well...not as good as Lightspeeds but not bad and looks more like a nebula than Volition's original.

At this stage it should be pointed out that Lightspeed uses photos taken from real life scopes / satellites / etc. to create his nebula files. It's hard to generate photo-realistic work like that without any previous template such as the original nebula to work from.

With that in mind Carl, very good start indeed! If you could add more detail to them then perhap it might help. Definitely a good bit of work.

Fantastic for totally CG work. I think it needs a an overlay of more cloudlike textures in Photoshop, that would be nice. :)

What I think is that you should do a whole load of them which we can then put in instead of the volition originals. Mine use a whole different system of combining them so using those is not applicable. Yours however, both look like a great improvement, and look like a suitable replacement to the retail ones.

On that note, is it possible to have them appear in the same shape as the originals? I'm guessing it is since it's particles...

I think you can get better results drawing by hand in photoshop, but admittedly it's much longer. Those doesn't look bad, but are a bit blurry, as the others said

Kazan, shut the hell up or be banned - your choice. I'll be monitoring your future posts to see if you get to give me a source of amusement in banning you - or if make the sensible choice and deny me that pleasure.

That is all.

See, I'm a big fan of the "unlocalized" (well, you think of a better word) style nebulas, like Lightspeed's. These look much closer to the V originals, and they are an improvement to be sure. But LS is right, these would be a more suitable to replace the one in vanilla FS2. What I would like, and this may just be me, is a larger area of nebula "stuff", but not necesarilly as vibrant as these. So, imagine putting a coloured, though barely visible layer behind this one, and these would serve as the "hgihlights". I don't know how much sense that made :D:D

getting them to both match V's nebulas and have more detail than V's is gonna be hard. only so many shapes will actually look good when done with particles. I can always see how it turns out.

Well, most things will be too slow to notice anyway, and other stuff is kinda limited as ANIs are stuck to 8-bit for now.
