These guys are using 802.11b to communicate across 22 miles of mountainous terrain, and the highschool uses old PC's in wooden cases to surf the 'net across that same conn. These guys have won a lot of respect from me, using so little to create so much.

A mighty piece of work yes, and very impressive. But I can't help but feel that not having to worry about food, drink or even power, gas and other fuels would be more useful generally.

How do you mean? They seem to have plenty of food, the water seems ok enough to walk to the village that's providing them with net acces (they used to do that each week or so), and the power is all solar stuff AFAIK.
