DaBrain: Early experiments with weapon effects after talking to some Volition folks and Dark (back in the dark ages when everyone was learning how to mod things) to get things like looked like lensflares in the weapon image. Problem is, they looked horrible in anything but a few screenshots.
Performance sucked because I used a very large image and projectile size so it'd look like a projectile followed by a lensflare. No alpha channels so the image was rough (the .jpeg blurs it enough so you don't see that)
However, it looked like a muzzle flash until the lensflare flies off behind the pulse
It also looked weird when hitting something because the projectile was so big. The third problem was how everything got distorted when looking at it from different angles.
So it was a bad idea, cool at first, but not usable.
