My choices?

Master of Orion (the original)
Wing Commander Privateer (also, the original)

Seems like there was another one I was going to list, but I can't remember the title now...eh, it'll come to me later.

[EDIT] Duh!  Starflight. :D [/EDIT]

Couple of the others you mention should also be up there.

Head over Heels is possibly the best game ever made bar none. I lost my childhood to that game and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Also, Kode, I'm guessing you never played Interstate 82. It was damn awful and I was absolutely gutted because at the time that game was top of my most wanted for like two years.

You're confusing me with someone else. Other than that, no, I never played I82. Had som fun in multiplayer with I76, tho.

No SCP treatment for Urban Assault! Now that would be an awsome project. You could actually do alot of stuff with that game the possibilities are endless. Basically the engine is beggin for an overhaul. You already can get high standard resolutions and if treated right could be a great mod IMHO.

Haven't heard of Quazatron or Ranarama, either. But there was some kind of "upgrade" for Paradroid on the Amiga, called "Paradroid '90". You can imagine how old the original is, if the remake is from 1990...

A Final Unity was great, too, wonder if it works on XP. Should give it a try, since my copy is still catching dust.

Something else worth to mention : Alpha Centauri with updated graphics, though they're still okay. That would rock.

Played it. Wasn't hugely impressed. It looked much better but it was somehow sort of hollow with none of the fun of the original.

Some of Keen was quite difficult, but I managed to finish all six episodes. Which one did you have trouble with?

First post after some quiet reading, but that's indeed a serious matter you guys are discussing here ;)

Anyway, after a swift sweep over my game boxes : Gunship. Too bad there are so few Helicopter sims around these days, but that's true for too many kinds of games.

Hey, mitac! Welcome to HLP. As for Gunship, dude - I empathise, that game absolutely rocked. (I have the original box and manual for Gunship 2000 still on my shelf.) Love that game.

Thanks, Setekh. :)

Had that one, too. But I gave it to a guy in my class, from whom I never got it back. :(

Shame. :( I have spent entire years of my life playing that game (especially trying to master the Blackhawk, that beast of a helicopter). I also notice you mentioned Alpha Centauri above - you have impeccable taste. :D Unfortunately, I wanted to find the expansion pack but it was never popular enough for my local game stores to order it in. :o

Same for me, that expansion was difficult to find when in was published, and now it's virtually impossible. Sure is a nice game.

Personally, I liked the Apache most. Suprise, surprise. And I hardly remember the other machines, it's been years since i played that - for obvious reason.

BTW, talking of good games : it makes me happy that Sid Meier is working on a sequel to Pirates. That'll cost me months of my life if it's only half as good as the original.

Anyway, time to go to bed. Good night, folks.

If they're gonna remake a copter sim, they should re-do Jane's AH-64 Longbow II.

Hmmm... Mechwarrior 3 with higher poly models and terrain, and basically just more eye candy would be awesome. And if they made graphics and level design more detailed in Deus Ex 1 that would rock as well. DX is a great game, but the graphics are pretty sucky.

No kidding. I spent a few hours playing Civ 3 at my friend's house, once - they had to drag me kicking and screaming from the keyboard. ;)

I used to love 'Pirates' the original by Microprose, pity it was so buggy :( I'd love it if someone did that with full 3D acceleration etc during the ship battles.
I've played a few attempts at copies, but they never matched up :(
