well the only advantage of metal would be a higher pressure rating, but i'll bet he's not even close to the rated PSI rating on that PVC.  the heat isn't a problem, since it the flame's projecting out, and the spray is only ignited a few inches after it exits the metal nozzle, therefore i'll bet even the nozzle stays cool

Liquid oxygen is actually a surprisingly good way to start fires. Even though it's very cold it can cause explosions if anything flammable falls into it.

When working with liquid nitrogen we were warned to change any dewer flask that ever took on a blue colour cause it meant that enough oxygen had condensed out of the air to make the flask dangerous.

No need to take my word for how good it is for lighting BBQs though cause I've found pictures
