Ravana slain, but I took a beating
I'm playing FS2 for the first time, and I was having a lot of trouble with the Ravana, but I've finally beaten the mission a few times now.  However, when I do manage to survive the mission, I've usually taken quite a beating, and none of my wingmen ever make it.  What is your strategy for slaying the Ravana, and is it possible to save any of your wingmen?

Welcome aboard :)

Get used to burying wingmen for a start ;) You can increase their use while they are alive by ordering bombers to attack the Ravan, and any fighter wings you can order to disarm it ;) They still die, but at least they do something useful first :)

I don't remember the level in detail, but, for the Ravana, I personally take out all the turrets in a small area of the hull and then lurk, whilst piling bombs into it :) There are bound to be other suggestions though.

It's a difficult Mission

But i think the best method is to destory the "Weapons" Subsystem on the Ravana with your Torps. After the Weapons are destoryed, the Towers shoot very bad and they hit anybody.

Yes, it can be done, but if you think about it, there's one wing of bombers (you) and 2 corvettes (hidden in the nebula) verses 1 Shivan Destroyer and a lot of Basalisks and such... You're outnumbered, so you'll naturally take a lot of hits. I usually just unload cyclops after cyclops while flying back and forth 'inside' (between the tuby things) the hull extremedies, and dodging missiles from pursuers... if you tell your wingmen to engauge the enemy, they might survive longer then if you told them to attach the Ravana...

True, but I think if they can even get a few bombs through, it makes it easier to kill the Ravana, thus ending the mission sooner, therefore giving them less time to get killed in ;)

I am very sensitive about my dead wingmen. So, I never lose them, period. They usually act as bait and I just shoot them down with my 3 shot prometheus cannon. The enemy is an easy target. Once the fighters are dead, you just keep pounding it. If I feel a wingman is almost dead, I order him to depart. That way, they live to fight another day.

Did you guys know that there's another two or three friendly capital ships that are supposed to jump in after the Sobek is destroyed?  Ah, I guess you probably did.

Ravana slain, but I took a beating
If I recall, I took a Medusa and two banks worth of Hornets, the last with Cyclops.  I found that if I went anti-fighter I could keep my wingmates alive long enough for them to actually get something done.  I would only need to contribute a few salvoes of bombs to complete the job, whether any of my wingmates survived or not.

I never really thought that mission really hard, tbh...

If a basilisk decides to start playing around with me, i stop what Im doing to take him down. Boanerges may not be the best at dogfighting, but basilisks are some of the easiest fighters to shoot down in the game...

Just unload your cyclops, order your wingmates to bomb, take out flak and anti-fighter beams first, and you really shouldn't have any problems.

Replace the BOanerges with Ursas for you and you wingmen, oder you wingman to attack the basilisks and Manticores, while you go after the wepaons subsystem. After that system is knocked out, order all wingmen to attack the Ravana and it should go down pretty quick.

I have never once had additional allied warships arrive on the scene before the Ravana dies.  Basically, order your WM to attack the Ravana and then mop up the basilisks that are close.  Then deploy your ordinance and then revert to anti-fighter dealing with Manticores as they bear.

I did that once - albeit IIRC I used a Zeus.

IIRC, the Zeus isn't available for that mission... that is, unless you alter the mission file.

I'm sure it is - I picked it as it had the highest maneuverability.

When launching the Cyclops at the Ravana, should they be fired in dual-fire mode or single?
