However, I do think that the way it's handled should be changed to be a bit more friendly to people who just want to play.
Yeah, that's all well and good on the modified tables part, but the fact still remains that it is impossible to play FSO multiplayer without knowing what exactly to move out of the main folder, right?

Buh? I dont get many bugs when playing FSOpen, so your post confuses me, BD.
It's not the bugs of FSO - it's the bugs of FS2 1.2 retail. Like the reticle being one of them, it's off from where the guns really point to (although I didn't check if you fixed that). There are also some weapon bugs, and exploits that were overlooked, for example, the ability to load a Perseus with Helios (or any gun/missle to any ship), or the AI going Invul when a player drops from the game (sadly I don't remember the exact conditions to when it turns invulnerable).
I recall also there being false indicators to when someone is turning, it actually shows a speed which is impossible to reach game wise, and I remember being called a hacker for that, until we actually sat down and tested it, and lo and behold, the game is a dumbass.
Also, I don't know if FSO allows it, but in FSRetail you could get yourself a mod from here (yeah I think it was actually HLP I downloaded it from), and it was meant for SingePlayer - yet when I tested it, it worked just fine in multiplayer - it was a HercMk2 with 8 guns. Didn't set off any alarms with the "tables/data" which leads me to believe that of course, aimbots were a dime a dosen for many people probably (although that didn't help anyone, because people who used them couldn't turn good)
Anyway, stuff like that. There's definatly more, I just can't remember them all, it's been a year and a half since I last played. Two since I played "for real" and actually cared about the game.
As far as cheating goes, I was actually wondering if you could bundle a Nazi program (shouldn't be a sweat for you guys to make), which is mandatory to run together at the same time with FSO, checking on the "extra" files all the time that people might use to cheat with, and just simply refuse to start the game, or play the game if it detects even a PDF file in one of your folders, where it isn't supposed to be.
Don't know if that's possible though, or how it would work. I just fly the damn things.
