Re: A celebration of Freespace

This is the GTC Euphonium, 3rd Fleet, Beta Aquilae.

She cannot be seen.

Unfortunately, she has chosen a very obvious piece of cover...

Wait, does that fighter have...

Thrust Vectoring?

I'm sorry if this is probably old news but I haven't seen FS actually display vectored thrust before.  Does it actually work as a gameplay mechanic?  Can it be bound to a control?

No that's just the default thruster behavior when the ship is doing a turn AFAIK.

No in-game function to reflect that but the Kent is a very agile fighter and I've always imagined it has vectored thrust.

you should play bp2! you would like it

Re: A celebration of Freespace
All the extra flaps open up when you activate your afterburnder.
And the engine trails apperently start at the actual engines, not at the end of the "flames" coming out of the engines.

Those flaps are totally useless, but I wish every ship had them now.

I do believe I posses a great desire to acquire the graphical enhancements that have been done to the Blue Planet modification for the video game FreeSpace 2 in a conveniently hasty manner as to increase my graphical fidelity in the video game to augment my enjoyment of the campaign.

Yes, well, the engine isn't exactly made for "atmospheric" missions, it looks good in my opinion!
Remember, increasing texture size on a mesh that big would be a crime against humanity (If only we had something like MegaTextures. :()

Seems to me landscape is one of the few places where tilemapping is better.  I suspect it wasn't before because landscapes without shadows look wrong, so they needed to be baked in, but that won't be a problem soon.

Someone tilemap the Moon!

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Excellent work indeed, really looks and feels like a real lunar city, Darius. I look forward zooming past those buildings chasing enemy fighters and shaking off missiles. ;)
I'm all about getting the most out of games, so whenever I discover something very strange or push the limits, I upload them here:

Progress in our world will be progress to more pain."

Actually, the moon is tilemapped, there are no baked shadows. The tile size is just so enormous that you don't see it.
