Re: A celebration of Freespace
Yes, excellent shot, especially with the lightning.
Did you use the 0.25 time compression to get the lightning shot? Or another method?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
No, i took about 20 shots trying to catch the lightning (i am a bad reporter).

Here's a tip: use the lvlshot tag if you want your screenshot to fit into the forum window of any computer. Replace IMG with lvlshot and /IMG with /lvlshot. ;)

Thanks  :)

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Is the lightning effect adjusted with time compression?  Seems like it's one of those things that wouldn't have been bothered with.  Same with nebular puff rotation, I have no idea if all that stuff is affect by time compression but it seems like corners they might have cut.

Here's the HTL Apollo off of freespacemods.net. I think it needs maps, but looks good nonetheless.

Anti-fighter beams will shoot directly through the Hecate to hit something on the other side. :P

Same goes for the Ravana. I once got hit by an SAAA that went through one of the prongs.

That's weird. Is that a vanilla bug or some recent issue?

Beam cannons clipping through ships is indeed a vanilla bug.

But fixing it by default would probably wind up breaking a significant percentage of all previously-made missions, so it remains.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
The best beam bug still is conflicting fire-beam SEXPs, that result in perhaps 2 or more beams firing from the same source.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
At least you can possibly rationalise that. Whereas you couldn't rationalise shooting through the hull, or at least, I don't think you could.

Good catch, didn't even realize there were two beams!

Had eight beams shoot out of one of the Ravana's prongs once, tried taking a screen but at that very moment its AAA beam cleverly blocked my entire screen. :doubt:

Collateral damage. Taking down enemy targets is prioritized above crew survival :P

An interesting thing though: Should we ever find a way to soften the intersect between beams and hulls, it would mean that the effect would apply on the ship the beam comes from, which could result from some pretty funny screens.

I remember an old screenshot of the TSJ Icanus attacking the SH Gargant with its USilv firing about 14 times at once. :drevil:

Yeah, the Gargant wasn't even damaged to 80%.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Did it even bring the Gargant down to 90%? I remember seeing either 95, 94 or 93%. A bit insane in the hitpoints department if you ask me.
